Recovery image

I'm about to take the jump into rooting and trying out some of these new ROMs, but have some questions. I've been a Fedora user for some years now, so I'm confident in my terminal skills.

-From reading through the SPRecovery directions you have to push a recovery image, but how does this affect your ability to backup the "stock" image I'm using, post rooting of course? Is all that it's doing overwriting the recovery image of what i'm using currently? Or does this enable the recovery-image shell to run, which I can then use to backup, or restore and image? The directions everywhere I've been reading aren't explicit at all, they just basically say "make a recovery image, then flash new ROM."

- If I decided to go back to stock, would it be easier to use the 2.0.1, unroot and update everything (is that even possible), or use whatever backup I made, unroot, and gain access to future OTAs?

Thanks a lot.

You won't lose access to OTA's as long as you don't rename the otacerts.zip file, or the ROM you flash has it removed. The SPRecovery is just a recovery image, it won't write over anything else on your Droid, you can make a backup with it once its flashed. If your good with command line stuff then I know there is a way to do a full dump before you flash the SPRecovery which would give you the stock recovery if you ever wanted it back, however I don't know the commands to do it, I know it is something with adb pull and perhaps mtdblock3 or whatever one is the recovery partition. Unrooting I have never done but it is easy enough with some of the guides around.

Unrelated but i just wanted to say props on the OFWGKTA! One of the best groups today! I don't often see anyone on the forums repping odd future. NICE

??? not sure why you necroposted in this three year old thread, but I am ignorant on that band and such.

Otherwise from looking elsewhere you have some good things to add to the community, so since this was your first post here:

Welcome to the site!;):):D

Lol thanks teddyearp! I hadn't heard that term before "necroposting".

Odd Future Wolgang Kill Them All is a great underground hip hop group, often compared to the wu-tang clan (not in music stylings, yet moreso they're quirky offbeat style and large supergroup formation 20+ members)

If you are a fan of hip hop particularly quirky underground hip hop, check out Odd Future Wolgang Kill Them All! (Otherwise known as OFWGKTA)

I would have dubbed that message as spam - but when I went back and checked, I finally figured it out.

CPercodani's signature contains a line from Odd Future's Orange Juice song: "So I'm guessin' there's questions that need addressin' like how he fresh in the adolescence and wreckin em'"

See Odd Future - Orange Juice Lyrics

So, for that, it's safe to say that his post, while necroposting indeed, was relevant enough.

Cheer!

shagerty, I am hoping to get necropost and all their variants added to Websters, seems as though I might have developed a new word, lol.

John, I had to do some right clickin' to make sure it wasn't some new sort of spam, lol.

[offtopic] John, who is John Galt: How is it going with Dagney? Have you finally won her away from Reardon for good? How is Ragnor Dagishaw doing these days? Is he still up to his old tricks? I think so. . . . .[/offtopic]

p.s. I'm not even into hip-hop, hence my ignorance.
