Help Can't Download Images From Phone

I have a new Razr Maxx HD w/Jelly Bean and my computer can see both the internal storage and the SD card, but I can't simply download images the way I used to - using windows explorer (win xp). When I try to copy or move an image, I get the error on the computer side, windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to close. Using that simple method I cannot copy or move any images off the internal phone or SD storage.

When the auto-play box comes up when I first plug in, it gives me an option to download images using Adobe Bridge. If I choose that, it'll work - takes much longer because Br is a resource hog, and then if I try to view an image in Bridge after downloading to the local drive, it will cause Bridge to crash. However, I can then open whatever other program and my images are there.

Why can't I just copy directly from the phone? I've got Motorola Device Mgr installed and am using the usb cord supplied with the phone. This is really frustrating for such an advanced device!!!

It may be an XP issue. I posted this before and it works with Win7. Maybe you can try upgrading the usb driver (assuming you don't have Win7)?

I think I know what's going on. I have the following:
1) Motorola USB driver (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481) I don't know if this is a requirement, but I installed it as part of getting root.
2) I set my USB Storage as Camera (Settings, Storage, - click on the menu at the top right corner -, USB Computer Connection, Camera PTP.
3) I used the *MOTOROLA* cable. If you use a generic cable that's meant for charging it may not work. I tried two generic cables that came with chargers and it did *not* work.

And here's the proof (couldn't embed the pic for some reason. Adding a link to my box.com where I uploaded the screenshot.

I have the Moto drivers installed on the desktop. I am using the usb cable that came with the phone. I changed the phone setting to "camera ptp" and when I plugged it in, I was able to see ONLY folders that had pictures in them, and copy into a directory on the pc. However, it froze up windows explorer when i clicked on one of the folders and then it would not recognize the phone anymore if I plugged it in again. I dont want to use wifi. All I want to do is plug the phone into the computer and transfer files/pictures back and forth.... I don't know what is wrong here.

Are you using Win7 or XP?

Hi Bruce_205! did you solve your problem? I have the same issue but the other way around... I copy some files from PC to my phone (phone was connected as media device MTP) but then I couldn't open them (.doc, .xls) so I set the phone as mass storage, copy the files again and then I was able to open them...

Is there any program to transfer files between the PC and cell? something like a PC suite or something similar?

Thanks!

One way that I did find works is on the phone, copy the images from internal to sd card (the camera default save is internal), hook it to the computer, and copy from the sd card to the pc. It seems to only crash when I try to copy from the device itself - internal storage.

I am trying to remove a couple of videos off my Razr HD and I can't figure out how to more from internal to sd card. What am I missing?

Use the "Files" app. Navigate to "Device Storage" and drill down to the videos in question. Hit Menu - click "select items" and make your selection. Click the "move" icon at the bottom (to the right of the Copy icon). Navigate to the target directory and select it (click upper left corner of your screen to go up a level). In the upper right of the screen is the word "move." Click it and it's done.

I think I read somewhere here that XP may be the issue. In fact, I believe one user reported that the XP machine didn't work but the Win7 machine did.

Not what you wanted to hear, but if you have access to a Win7 machine, give it a shot.

I was the guinea pig for XP issue...rmhd does not like xp machines. After some help from moto level 3 and downloading the newest media player and codecs, we got it to work...sort of. This is one reason I eventually went back to a rmhd that is still running ICS which still supports UMS, and I can use the phone like a thumb drive. JB works fine with the win 7 OS but not XP. Doesn't really matter about cables and such...been there too.
