High end games for a high end tablet?

I received a Nexus 10 for Christmas, and so far I am absolutely loving it. It is, IMHO, by far the best Android tablet available.

That being said, my biggest disappointment is the selection of games. Most of them seem to be ports of phone games, or extremely simple endless running or puzzle games. Pretty much every game is either free, follows a "pay to unlock" structure, or is under the cost of $3.

Am I the only one that would like to see higher priced, bigger budget games on Android? (similar to say Xbox Live or Playstation Network)

I have downloaded some of the popular paid titles (Osmos, Devil's Attorney, Swords and Sworcery) but I think the combination of hardware and the touch screen interface really lends itself to certain types of games (graphic adventures and RTS games come to mind).

So my specific questions are:

1) Are there some bigger budget titles out there that I am just not finding?

2) Is anyone else out there sharing the sentiment that this awesome hardware platform needs equally awesome selection of games?

3) Does anyone else agree that the way the play store organizes games is part of the problem?

3 cheers for Osmos HD! Thoroughly enjoyed that game... headphones are a must -- takes you to whole different state.

I recommend 'Battleheart' if you haven't already tried it... really enjoyed it. Build your group (tank, dps, ranged dps, heals) and do battles. It's not a really a dungeon crawl (WISH IT WERE!) but a series of skirmishes. Gear, upgrades and talent trees -- good times!

Anomaly Warzone HD is gorgeous... it's a tower defense game with a twist -- you're the convoy, trying to get through their defenses on the way to... well, just go see a video on YouTube :) You select your vehicles, lay out your route, decide on your kit and have at it!

I personally don't like the in-app purchases. Games like Temple Run and many others all have that option but I will simply play them over and over without purchasing anything.

I've had an Android device since the OG Droid was released so I have accumulated a lot of apps. my opinion is that Gameloft seems to be one of the best companies for Android games and EA seems to be one of the worst. I've had a lot of issues with EA on all of my devices.

Just some of the games that I have that I really like are:
Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation
The Amazing Spider Man
The Dark Knight Rises
Ski Safari (really simple and entertaining)
World of Goo
Spirit
Spirits (haven't played it much but it is a well done game)
Pitfall (in app stuff sucks though)
Zombirds
Granny Smith
Samurai II
Predator
Asphalt 7
N.O.V.A 3
Speedx 3D
Pew Pew 2

Thanks to everyone for the great game recommendations. I will be sure to check out several of them!

I too am a long time android user. I think now that tablets have come into the fold, the way the play store is set up is just not ideal. (for example, the "categories" of games to not reflect common gaming industry terms such as Real-time strategy, first person shooter, etc).

I also think that, for probably a number of reasons, developers just are not taking the chance of making more expensive, feature rich games for the android platform.

I really hope that 2013 changes this fact. The Nexus 10 is an outstanding platform for certain genres (turn based and real time strategy come to mind). I personally would be willing to pay a premium for a premium game, say the $8-$20 range, just like I do currently on Xbox Live.

Just curious, would the rest of you be willing to pay more to get fuller, more console/PC style games on your tablets?

I couldn't agree more. Generally speaking, in-app purchase games tend to just follow cycles of trying to get more and more coins/gems/whatever so you can get more stuff that give you more coins/gems/whatever. Tend to be pretty mindless games IMHO.

That being said I did get addicted to Hill Climb Racer... although I never spent any money on it.
