needless to say, it is now a contest between galaxy s and evo: but the more i ponder, i realize that samsung is overall a better option; screen is only 0.3 inches smaller but still huge and on top of that it is brighter, more efficient, better under sunlight. camera is 3 mps lower but mps mean nothing in cameras and the camcorder still shoots HD videos anyways, and given HTC's record in camera quality, i would not be surprised if samsung's 5 mp cam takes nicer pics than HTC's 8 mp cam. while the galaxy s does not do HDMI, its GPU is faster than that of all currently existing smartphones. the battery and CPU are the same for both.
therefore, the features in which the galaxy s is superior to the evo seem to me more important (in terms of every day usage) than the features in which the evo is superior to the galaxy s.
off course there is the 4g that evo has and the supposed flash support and the nice kickstand and the gorgeous red accents in the back of the evo. but then again, there is the ever more convenient thinness of the galaxy s, along with its higher internal storage and newer bluetooth
.
as far as the custom UI, well, i would turn off both sense and smart life because i want android's 3d scrolling and gallery.

but wait: galaxy has no camera flash :(:eek:

but there is one thing that i hate about both evo and galaxy s, which is something that all of you hate: THE FACT THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THESE PUPPIES! ouch....i want june to come NOW! and hopefully galaxy s is t-mobile usa bound!

what do you guys think? evo or galaxy s?

I'm sick of HTC now. It seems Motorola and Samsung invest better quality hardware into their phones. I've found out that my Droid has a stronger processor than the Nexus 1. TI took the time to make one, and now I believe they did the one for the Galaxy S. Yep....that's why the Galaxy S is THE phone! Bring it to VZW.

Is that just because you overclocked it?

Also, neither is the best to date because you can't get either. The N1 is the best. If you are going to talk about future phones, you'd have to stick the motorola shadow in there which is supposedly coming out this summer as well.

as much of weird is this i'm gonna say right now : the MyTouch 3G UI is better than TouchWiz , and wait ! i'll go further : The S-Class UI is better than TouchWiz !
I'll take the HTC Hero instead of the Galaxy S just because of the UI ,
of course , if i can turn it off , it's a whole different story :)

I can understand when you say that because your first experience was probably with touchwiz on behold or omnia 1 but overtime samsung has grown and I believe the new UI is much easier and functional that ever even better that the UIs you mentioned above.

I too think that the Galaxy S is the best offering to date. The one feature that I like most is the non reflective screen. Being able to see my phone in bright light is extremely important to me as my job is in the bright sun shine many times. I don't think that many people realize how important that Samsung's new screen will be.

The Evo is edging out the Galaxy for me for the following reasons:

1. Evo has HDMI out. I can throw a HD movie or two on a SD card and bring it to a friend's house (to play on their HDTV) and not have to take my laptop.

2. Sprint has MUCH better coverage in my area than TMobile, and I am leaving AT&T because I drop at least 2 calls a day, and the customer service has been awful. Also, Sprint 4G is coming to Denver by the end of the year.

3. Everyone I know that has ever had a Samsung phone has hated it, and they've been called one of the worst mobile manufacturers out there. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Samsung TV and computer monitor, but even those still can't wash away how HORRIBLE my wife's Samsung BlackJack II was.

I do still drool over the Samsung's Super AMOLED screen though...

people, please dont forget about the "galaxy desaster" samsung has produced, just have a look into the i7500 subforum. they refused for more than 6 month to release one single firmware that does not contain major bugs. the support on samsungs side hase prooved that top notch specs are not all to build a good phone nowadays...

yeah i agree with u Nex_1 but i guess u r referring to behold 2's touchwiz just like rtimi said but i think this new touchwiz 3.0 is lot better than any other UIs right now so far of course Sense UI looks nice but it's getting little old so i would like to see what samsung has to offer now but u said mytouch 3g ui is better so this means that default ui is better than touchwiz???

You should try the X10 then its the best screen i've used in direct sunlight.

The Galaxy S is a nice phone but the lack of flash on the camera is pretty poor.

I thought I was gonna jump ship for the EVO but I think I'll be waiting to see where the Galaxy S lands. Imma huge Samsung fan and the phone looks sick!

i agree with u man no more HTC android phones please... Sense UI is getting old.... i hate the touchwiz on the behold 2 but this new touchwiz 3.0 looks sweet!! people think they ripped it off from iphone i mean i can see why but its just the app menu that looks pretty similar but as far as spec, home screen etc looks better than the iphone (especially the spec) man.. i can't wait to see this phone!!!!!! i wanna get it now!! my behold 2's battery is going nuts right now because i installed so many different roms so many times....

i keep seeing folks citing the nexus one as a standard of reference - don't know if you guys are aware but the 3G connectivity issues with the N1 have not been resolved and google just announced on their support forum for the nexus that they will not be devoting any more engineering resources to the issue.

There's a 71 page thread on their support forum re this issue. Earlier in that thread they identified the issue as being a radio chip (ie pulling a weaker signal than other handsets, iirc something like 12dbm less - one of the engineering types likened that to being approx 1 bar on the 3g bar indicator.

Considering the N1 (mrgr'd by HTC), and the HTC Incredible, Evo and the HD2 all share the basic same internals with some memory differences and camera features, i'd be cautious about any of those models. I brought home a HD2 for 4 days, and it was doing exactly as the N1 users were complaining about, fluctuating from 3G to edge and back, in the same spot as my Mytouch 3G was showing 3-4 bars of 3g signal. And engadget, in their review of the HTC Incredible, noticed a similiar fluctuating 3G signal strength. Google first linked it (or tried) to weak Tmo coverage, but since they started shipping the N1 to ATT users, they're posting similiar complaints.

check out the thread on google - this link is to the 68th page - almost all the way to the bottom you'll see a poster with the google color logo next to his name - that's the post where they announce no more support. Read from there on to the end - it'd be funny if it weren't so outrageous. I think that thread is between 2800 & 3000 posts so far, with a surprising number of those posters indicating they've swapped phones under warranty with HTC, 3 to 5 times. Just the shipping costs, they could've bought a new phone
