What's New - This is an ESE81 2.1 ROM - Built From Source :)

1. Helix Launcher2 not supported yet
2. Helix Launcher1 included in nandroid backup
3. New bootanimation (THANKS to Liquidzgrl) - you won't see it if you don't wipe
4. Nexus LWP's have a darkened background
5. Facebook/Yahoo/Skype Mobile issues fixed
6. Predictive text issues fixed - extra keyboard removed
7. 'Home' Launcher is again 5-screen

8. Many new scripts. All of the mv* scripts are dual purpose, they can both rename (the default) or delete. Renaming hides it in your app list, but you can get it back later. When you delete, it's gone. Here they are:

mvcc - Corporate Calendar
mvch - Car Home
mvclock - Alarm Clock
mvdroid - Droid Sound
mvdt - Dev Tools
mvgg - Google Goggles
mvgv - Google Voice
mvhl - Helix Launcher
mvl - Launcher/Home
mvl2 - Launcher2/Launcher
mvmp3 - Amazon MP3
mvqo - Passion Quick Office
mvsp - Spare Parts

For example, to rename/hide Corporate Calendar:

mvcc

Run the same command again and it will magically re-appear

If you know you'll never want to use it and just want it gone, just append -d to the command:

mvcc -d

The next two scripts will backup and restore your apps to your SD card. No settings yet ... but working on that. At least this is an easy way to restore your apps if you don't have a good paid app such as Titanium (yes I love to save you money, ha ha):

bkapps
rstapps

What's Existing

1. Certain apps (Maps/Pandora) removed - can be downloaded from the market, also as themed versions below
2. All busybox commands properly linked
3. Kernels now includes TUN
4. Modified framework to work with PulldownEditor
5. Nexus LWP will be less intensive on the CPU, which means less heat (cuts cpu usage almost in half; credit to ReverendYo/ChevyNo1)
6. Including options for different colors on Nexus LWP
7. Starfield wallpaper is also gone, as it was previously in /system
8. Now including a /data partition in the nandroid. Now included is the Wifi-Tether app pre10

To Wipe Or Not To Wipe

If you are coming from 2.0.1, you MUST data wipe - if you do not, you WILL have problems. If you are coming from a ROM that was not built from source, it is advisable for you to completely wipe/factory reset.

With version 3.1, I now have 3 methods of installing this, and they apply to different groups. They are:

1. Coming from a 2.0.1 ROM or a ROM not built from source - LINK DOWN - Simply Stunning v3.1 ESE81 Nandroid - this crowd MUST wipe
2. Coming from a 2.1 ROM built from source - Simply Stunning v3.1 ESE81 Update (update.zip format) - no wipe necessary (people for #1 can also use this method, just wipe via SPRecovery)
3. Coming from SS3.0 or greater - Simply Stunning v3.1 ESE81 Upgrade (update.zip format) - no wipe necessary

Maps/Pandora is now removed from /system. This means if you are running a previous version of my ROM and any/all of these are still in /system, you will have files stranded in /data when you flash this ROM. This only seems to be a problem with Maps; the other two seem to still be able to be installed from the market. There is a process documented to resolve the maps issue. Right at the top of this page. Maps will now prompt you to login, and you should get an alert in your notification bar. If your browser cannot lock into your location, go into Settings -> Location -> Use Wireless Networks - the browser relies on cell towers and not GPS.

If the kernel is a problem, you will get stuck on the 'M' while booting up. In this case, flash a lower kernel AFTER the ROM.

This build comes with the 1.0Ghz low voltage kernel; you can change that if you wish with the kernels I've also listed. If you do NOT want to lose the current kernel you are running, simply de-select the boot partition in the Advanced Nandroid Restore menu.

Stock Theme Patcher (update.zip) - Will revert to 3-screen Launcher as well

Nexus LWP Color Options - update.zip format

Nexus-Blue.zip
Nexus-Green.zip
Nexus-Original.zip
Nexus-Red.zip
Nexus-Yellow.zip

Additional Kernels (update.zip format):

All My Other Kernels

SetCPU - not included as it is a paid Market app

Glassed Facebook (credit to ChevyNo1) - update.zip - may cause future update issues
Glassed Pandora (credit to ChevyNo1) - update.zip - may cause future update issues

Bugs:

-Sometimes the auto-brightness does not work if your phone has just rebooted. Simply pressing the power button twice will fix it.
-In the pulldown, the Market information is still black, making it hard to read - working on this

Disclaimer:

This is an overclock ROM, therefore if you're not careful, you'll do damage. I am not responsible for any such damage, you use this of your own free will.

Enjoy, and feedback is always welcome - bugs included

Chevy got a question is this built from AOSP with ESE81 drivers or built from ESE81.

edit SSantan beat me to it. Not trying be a dick BTW just trying to clarify

This is built completely from ESE81 source, pulled from AOSP. So essentially this SHOULD be the same as the OTA update, in terms of the source that both are built from. That is my understanding anyway.

All I know is with the exception of the google apps, and launcher/email, every other app was completely built from source code. And the tag from the getgo stated ESE81.

Think of ESE81 as just a release #, or tag if you will. That said, all I've done is built the new OTA release from source, with tweaks of course.

Alright, here goes...I didn't really get too far with this ROM so these observations are very "top level". I haven't had time to gauge the performance as of yet. I will re-load this and try again later (hopefully after a few small things have been fixed).

As the Nandroid backup link has been down (option 1), I downloaded the update.zip in option 2. Here is what I found:

I wiped data, system, cache, and boot (twice each) using SPRecovery and ADB prior to installing the update.zip. I installed this ROM twice just to make sure this was not a "quirky" installation issue.

Helix launcher is not included with the update.zip install. My only options were "Home" and Launcher as shown below. I also installed the update.zip for the themed Facebook app and that was not themed correctly on any homescreen:

B1X2p.jpg
8BATu.jpg

So, I downloaded helix from the market and found that the launcher appears to be themed (which I found strange cause it wasn't included in the system partition). Seemed to work fine yet the Facebook app wasn't themed properly (Pandora was fine using the update.zip):

9Agbf.jpg

Now, the facebook app not theming correctly isn't a big problem as there are many MM themes that could correct this. I would say that the smoked glass version of facebook has always sucked. Look how the first line of text on is not visible. The only way around this is to set your wallpaper to a very dark or black color...I don't know how this has been used for so long without being fixed...

If I could make a recommendation with the framework...I would like to see the search widget themed like it is on the HexFusion theme. With everything being "smoked glass", the whitish grey of the border looks pretty bad IMO. It just doesn't go.

Like I said, I like the overall look of it and I'd like to try it again...but I'm not wanting to spend the time to fix this myself (the facebook + search widget)...just to have to do it again with future updates. I just flash to often to do this for ROMs every time.

I also tried this ROM today and found a lot to like (I love the smoked glass blue of the Simply Stunning ROMS and the new boot animation is beautiful), but I had the same issue as I had with the NexTheme ESE81 R2 ROM - noticeable lag in Sweeter Home 2, and lots of errors and FCs in SH2, as well, which I haven't experienced since I went from DroidMod to BB v0.8.

I performed complete data/cache, system and boot wipes (2x each) before installing both ESE81 ROMs and was running at 1.2Ghz on each, but no luck. I'm starting to wonder if ESE81 is really just slower/laggier than ESE53.

I ended up restoring back to BB with my Chevy kernel, and SH2 is flying again.

Just thought I would chime in to this thread to say that I have been running this ROM for 2 days now, and without any real problems. That is, not to say there aren't any problems that I haven't had with any ROM I have run. Most of my problems stem from packing my Droid "chock-full" of apps.

The only serious change I made was to use Chevys MV 1.25GHz kernel, since my Droid seemed to run slow on the included kernel, even when maxed out at 1GHz.

My uncle is also running this ROM, and is reportedly having less troubles than he had on BB9.

I give this ROM a thumbs up:)

Awesome, thx for giving it a try. Let me know if you have any issues/comments! :)

Going to try this this weekend. Is it in ROM Manager yet?

Not yet, but it's very easy to install using ROM Manager. Just download the zip file to anywhere on your SD card, then tell ROM Manager to Install from SD Card. You can then navigate to the file (you don't even have to rename it).

What I did, however, was go into ClockworkMod Recovery, and do several wipes of data/cache, boot and system, then I did Install from SD Card from the recovery menu. It wasn't necessary to reboot between any of those steps.
