[MineCraft] I just don't get it???

the whole point of the game, why so many think its the best thing ever, why people are paying good money for a game with 1980 grafix, There is a good reason we left blocky pixly games behind.

And I am a gamer by heart but I just can't even start to like this game.

Id like too if someone could explain it, GF kids are nuts over it.

Many, many hours are wasted in my house with that game. All by my 13yo son and 11yo daughter. They think the 8bit graphics is "cool". They also really seem to enjoy the creation of new worlds and sharing amongst friends. I guess that means it's quite the "social game". I have purchased the first cost of the Android application. My son has spent his birthday money on the computer version. It's either that or some toy that will only hold his attention for a couple of hours.
I, as an adult, unfortunately tend to have "more important" things to do :( ... so I can't speak to it first person.

I too thought the game seemed boring, and had no real objective or point to be playing it, however once you come up with an idea and start building it you look at the clock and suddenly 4 hours have gone by. I do not consider it the best thing ever, but it can get fairly addicting, especially if you have a little bit of a creative side.

For me the graphics are irrelevant. When I'm playing it's like I'm a 10-year-old again building a fort. There are bad guys which try to get in my fort and I have to fight them off or figure out how to keep them out. Then I can expand my fort into whatever I can think of. I can also go exploring the land to see what's out there. Then I dig a mine as far down as I want and build a huge lair down there if I feel like it.

It also has a resource gathering part to it which builds on to my exploration. It's neat to dig into a cave of lava then traverse it to see what's on the other side.

For $26, I've gotten a lot of fun out of those crappy graphics! It's a rare game that can make a 47-year-old feel 10 again.

However, I've never bought the Android version. The PC version is where it's at.

Nothing wrong with not getting it or hating it. I've been unsuccessfully trying to get Radiohead for years. ;)

I only play the PC version, playing online with friends or a friendly group of people can be allot of fun. You can make epic buildings, craft items, trade, explore, farm or battle other players.

There are plenty of mods to improve the graphics on the PC version, however the Android version is another story. It's far to limiting, it needs to be brought up-to the same level as the PC version.

Minecraft PE and 360 are working on getting multiplayer. the former may have crossplatform play with PC. The later is a crapshoot because of XBL, MS, and the 3rd party company that made the XBLA version.

The graphics are "dated" for 2 big reasons. 1.) Markus(notch)persson wanted the game to feel retro. 2.) Minecraft is ran with Java, so graphics on the level of say, a PS2. Would strangle your GPU AND CPU. Honestly, the game should have been coded in C++ for porting. Notch only knows Java.

The point of the game is survival and creativity. just in the confines of an unmodded .jar, a lot can be done. first, you make a house, then a bed, then find a food source, then start mining. at somepoint you build a bigger house and farm. Then you experiment with redstone, you explore your world, find and build villages. When you get bored of that you try mods until you get a pack you enjoy.

OK so now I get part of it, gave it one more shot last night and ended up building a place to stay..

using pocketinvedit pro from market to back up, no clue what im doing, just creative mode, just grabbing blocks to stack. Though did turn on survival for a min to get some animals n stuff on the map. Built the creeper his own castle.

I would say try it on PC or Xbox 360 first to get the feel of it and then jump to mobile. I tried it when it was in beta and felt the same way but then tried it when it came on the 360 and the bug bit me. I now have it for 360, PC, IOS and probably will get it for Android eventually. Mobile is definitely (IMHO) the weakest but it's still fun.
