30,000 Apps: Why are so few taked about?

I'll be very generous and says there are no more than 300 apps I see talked about. There must be some great apps no one has ever heard of in that 30,000. What can we do to find more great apps?

My guesses is that of that 30,000 there must be 10,000 wallpapers and sound collections at least. That accounts for a third of them!

You know it. They have to let developers put in keywords, so you can search on "keyboard" and "Swype" will still show up.

And with 45,000 apps, if they don't do it soon, the job is going to get too big to do at all.

It does, given that the name of the app is "Shapewriter Keyboard"

It's partly up to the developers themselves. Naming your app something like "Xcalibur" with a description of "This is an app we made, let us know what you think" isn't going to be helpful to the search engine. However, I agree that Google could be doing more, especially given where their company's origins lie. Keywords would be a possibility, although they are wide open to abuse.

The single biggest thing Google can do to improve the Market is create a new category called "Themes/Skins/Add-ons", and remove it from the main search listings. It's ridiculously difficult to search for e.g. some of the home replacement apps, only to have to scroll through page after page of skins for it to find the actual app.

Odd the best search engine in the world has such a poorly run dstabase of apps.

There are a lot of apps that are novelty items and no one talks about them because no one really cares about them. Consider apps that fart, show you "hot chicks", make Star Trek sounds, etc...

Yeah, thats what I was going to say. Same deal with the iphone in that regard. Most of the talk is about a (relatively) small minority of the apps. There just isnt much to say about the foo-foo apps.

i think they should have more categories that way categories like entertainment isn't full of soundboards and wallpapers
