Bought this phone very cheap with lines on half of the screen and the volume down is inoperable was told. And i was told phone is fully functional. I dont have the phone yet but will this week. Can i still use volume in settings? Can this line issue be fixed if factory reset it or firmware upgrade? Can this phone be rooted without PC if i cant get volume down to work? Maybe adjusting brightness would help a little? or move all apps to middle somehow?

Well, I don't blame the person for getting rid of that phone. ;)

Water damage can cause the issues you're reporting. That is worrisome, but not entirely impossible to remedy if you're willing to maybe spend some more money and look around for a new screen via Google.

Check inside the battery case for the water/moisture detector sticker. I believe that on the T-bolt the indicator is a red sticker on the stock battery itself. I think there is also a little hole on the left with a "void" (as in warranty) indicator if it's been exposed to moisture.

Rooting is the last thing I'd be worried about, but again, if you're willing to do some work you can get it done.
