Help Help to Partition a SD card

1. Mini Tools Partition Wizard: Best Free Partition Manager Freeware for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.
2. Back up the card, then:
- Delete the current partition
- Create (in this order) a FAT32 primary partition, then the second partition (also primary). The second partition format type is dependent on what you want it for. If it's to use Link2SD, it's best to partition it as an Ext2, about 2Gb in size (therefor make the first partition the max size minus 2GB).

On this software, it won't actually carry out the deletion & creation until you click on Apply down the bottom of the screen.

3 most common mistakes:
a) Not backing up card's current contents first
b) Highlighting the wrong drive to format (yes, some people have clicked on their C drives.....)
c) Not making each partition Primary.

Please help follow your steps and I still can't get it to work, ruined two SD cards

What do you mean "didn't work"? Describe the problem and maybe someone can help more... the steps work perfectly fine to partition... maybe the appp your using on the phone doesn't work correct... use link2sd... not app2sd... and always select "link to sd card" not "move to sd card"...

do I have to pull the sd card out of my phone to do this or can I just plug my usb cord for my phone into my laptop? And how do I get to the screen to do this if that is the case?
thanks

Actually tkalfaoglu is wrong. You don't need to remove your card from your phone. If you put your phone in usb storage mode so the card shows up on your computer when you plug your phone in, MiniTools Partition Wizard can do all the operations needed on it. In fact, you don't even need to delete your existing partition, you can just resize your first partition to make room for the 2nd partition, leave all your files right where they are (though it's still a good idea to back up the card before you go changing partitions). I did this the other day with no problem on my ancient LG Optimus V and it worked w/o a hitch. It was so easy I decided to upgrade my puny 2gb card to a 32gb card today. I plugged the new card into a card reader, plugged my phone into my pc in usb storage mode and then used MiniTools Partition Wizard to copy the partitions from the 2gb card to the 32gb card and resize them on the fly. Of course, that didn't work quite right....MiniTools was able to resize the Fat32 partition on the fly, but no free tools I found could resize the ext2 partition on the fly, or even after copying. So, I procured a copy of Paragon Hard Disk Manager, which is probably the best partition manager around, and that had no problems copying/resizing my ext2 partition on the fly. Anyway, the short version of all that is, NO you don't need a separate card reader, all this can be done via the USB connection.

Minitool partition wizard can't recognize SD storage of the phone. Any idea why? I'm guessing it require a drive letter which my phone when connected to PC doesn't have. Just phone name and inside it the name of the SD card

[I am answering this for people who are coming across this thread through google]

After partitioning, you need to go to App2SD or Link2SD and mount the new partition (I partitioned through App2SD and got the option to mount just after that)
Then check through Apps2SD if /data/sdext2 is ready or not (3 vertical dots > Storage info)
If it's ready, then just start linking the apps. You can also set it such that apps are auto linked
