So tonight I was looking around on my ps3 for different streaming apps and I remember at one point I had signed up for a free month trial of amazon prime. So I started to surf around in the app, selected a movie, and what do you know?, It started streaming....I thought "WTF?"

So I get on amazon.com and check my account...sure enough I had forgotten back in September to cancel my free trial. So it was a surprise...I don't want to say a bad surprise...but thank god I had the money on that credit card. I usually never forget things like that, but looking back on it I was working 6 days a week back then, so it makes sense that I forgot.

It was an $80 cost though....

I bought Amazon Prime for its free 2-day shipping (because I order from Amazon A LOT!). It was only later, when I received an e-mail from Amazon saying "did you know that your Prime membership includes unlimited streaming..." that I found out about THAT part of it. Although I rarely actually use it, when I do it's nice that it's there.

but you don't always get free 2 day shipping, amazon prime gets you 3 things, free 2 day shipping, unlimited streaming, and free kindle books to read (i believe)

but not all videos are free to stream even with your prime account. Some still cost a little extra.

I'm still debating whether or not to cancel my trial before it runs out, because I don't order to terribly much from them, and so far all the shows I have wanted to stream cost 1.99 extra, and I don't read haha.

If i ordered things more often the free 2 day shipping would end up paying off the amazon prime cost each year.

The books are only free if you're a Kindle user. As for the rest, I have an Amazon Prime Student account - so I only pay $37 for the next 4 years (each year). Can't complain about that. I order so much stuff from Amazon that it's not even remotely funny.

The free two-day shipping is nice and all, but I don't know if it is worth $79 a year. If it were $40, I would renew...
For me, it's well worth the $79/year. I order from Amazon...a lot. And the free shipping comes in handy when I'm placing an order that wouldn't otherwise qualify for whatever free shipping offer they may have at the time, such as > $25 orders. I've placed orders for like $3 (nail clippers) and liked not worrying about paying for shipping. I also order things like 40 pound boxes of cat litter (3 of them, monthly, on 'subscribe and save'), which would cost a FORTUNE (based on weight) if shipping had to be part of it. So it's all about how you use Amazon whether or not the cost of Prime is worth it.

Hey, I am a student! Maybe I should invest in a couple years'worth.

I believe they give you a free trial period when you first sign up with a .edu e-mail address. When I signed up it was a full year, but I think it's "only" 6 months now. But still definitely worth it as well as it being heavily discounted when you do start paying for it.

As for not being worth it or not, if you buy a decent amount of things online it's worth it. It's often times ~$20 to ship a very light package on two-day. So buying just four times on Amazon Prime already justifies the subscription fee. Not to mention you can over-night things for only $4. Most sites you can't even ship standard for $4, and considering over-night shipping often times costs easily over $50 for a really light package.

With my past experience on using the "Free Shipping on $25+" or "Free Super Saver Shipping" is it typically is slower than standard shipping. They take their sweet time with getting it out of the warehouse onto a UPS truck, usually over 3 days just to have it in the hands of UPS and then you have to wait for the actual standard shipping too. But using Prime's shipping they'll get it on the UPS truck the same day as long as you order sometime early afternoon or earlier.

I don't even use Amazon's streaming at all, but Prime is totally worth it especially if you buy online often. Note not all items are Prime eligible though, however most "popular" items are.

I had a free year of Amazon Prime for I can't recall. I get lots of promo stuff. I liked it, but I let it go.

When I bought my Kindle I got it again for the included stuff, and consider it well worth the $79. NewEgg has been very good to me, but I've become addicted to getting free 2-day and $3.99 next-day. I probably save $500+ in shipping fees alone. The free streaming and other perks are gravy.
