Tablet Size Nexus

Now that the iPad is out on the market. I wonder if Google is working with some company (eg HTC) to design a tablet size nexus.

i just please ask Google to team up with HTC to design a Google-HTC tablet. Team up with Amazon to deliver us a Kindle/Amazon-tv. And it would be cool to see a Google-TV on the device.

Yeah I see Google releasing some Chrome OS based Tablets, but I do hold out hope that HTC will release a tablet with Sense on it. I used to be a loyal Samsung phone customer, but the Instinct-Behold 2-Moment debacle I have gone through since January really turned me off them. My Hero is amazing though, and I find myself using it more than my laptop even at home with my laptop sitting next to the couch. I was actually thinking just yesterday how I wish I had a tablet computer with Android and Sense on it.

wow leaked images look great. i hope it stay true to google's android ideals.

Wow the specs look great. i have to admit i'm more tempted to get this device pre-order than the ipad. Replaceable 40 Watt battery life, which is like 2.5x the ipad!! I think google should consider outsourcing the development of the Google Pad with these guys.

That Gemini spec looks good. I'd like to see if running in the flesh though.
One thing Apple have nailed is usability and functionality even if its lacking features.

I've considered an iPad but since moving to my Nexus One (first android based phone) I simply cannot find any reason to use a mobile Apple device again (iPhone, iPad) Mostly due to how much its restricted. I simply love how I can play with the source for my Nexus One and modify things how I want them.
Having a tablet pc that could do the same would be awesome for some kind of media front end or home control system. I'm all for home automation and this would simply be awesome.

I don't really get the point of these tablets and all the excitement they're getting, i mean a laptop/netbook is way more practical (i guess that's my opinion)

Why would anyone with a smartphone want a gigantic version of their phone

Played around with the ipad earlier, it looked rediculous, could not take it seriously

I'm with you. The only thing they have over a laptop/netbook is something small, lightweight to carry around and long battery life. I suppose it would be good for reading books and playing games on long trips and vacations. Having said that, I would probably get an android tablet for the right price someday.

i do agree with you that you'll get more of a bang for your bucks if you get a portal notebook. but i need a reader on the go, preferable something that can open a full size document and edit them. notebooks are great, but their battery power doesnt last long enough for me. and opening a document in the middle of the hallway or a busy street on a notebook i guess i prefer something more on the go and doesnt kill me if i play a video or two.

think we wont see these until Flash 10.1 is released. Im sure these things will go like crazy for college students. But I agree, laptops/notebooks are the same, but these are way cooler...lolthe

the biggest factor is the price. Ipads 500 isnt that bad IMO. As long as others with Android OS are in that area they would be great. I would like to see some advertisement for these other than the moto droid. Apple commercials are constantly on

Most people are comparing these to laptops/notebooks. To my knowledge they all have sub 12" lcd screens. This is NETBOOK range. Netbooks have much better batteries than laptops that's for sure.

I also don't see why people are compaining about tablets. If you don't like it or don't want one. Why are you even here? People who want/need (think they need) one are here to see what's on offer and I feel that people are just out for the conflict of not agreeing with something.

I agree with Buck Shot about the price though. If these Android tablets aren't close, or even lower, than the iPad price they simply won't make it. They may do some things better but that doesn't mean its worth more money than the more 'desirable' iPad.

I actually see it as a lighter, longer lived version of my laptop. I can do presentations with an iPad, do some light content creation (docs and spreadsheets) respond to email, watch movies with a nice size screen, surf the web, read the NYTimes, do essentially all I do with my laptop, but with a device that weighs 1.5 pounds and gets 12 hours of battery. And once the 3G version arrives, I can sit on the train and stay connected. I love my phone, but squinting and trying to do actual work on a tiny screen, no thanks.

anyone who thinks the iPad isn't over priced has obviously eaten the forbidden fruit. 500 for a locked down device, closed ecosystem, lacks standard ports for connecting peripherals, no camera for video conferences..... seriously, I wouldn't pay $100 for this device.

I would however love to have a tablet with a simple interface, plenty of apps, usb/firewire, cameras on both sides and if it was Android based it would be great. I find myself more and more hating having to get on laptop to do things.

Overpriced? You do realise this is Apple? lol
Everything Apple sell is over priced and sub-par to any similar device.

Take the iPhone for instance, when it first came out it was lacking so many standard features even phones that were 5 years older than it could perform simple tasks that it couldn't. And people still paid upwards of $500 for one.

You have to realise that Apple is like a designer brand, it doesn't have to have the functionality just the name on it and it's worth what ever they want to price it at.

I've been very tempted lately to purchase an iPad but I would honestly much prefer the equivilent in an android based device. The greatest thing I did was move from my iPhone 3GS to a Nexus One. I mean, I can actually store things on the phone and access them from a computer! Who would have thought that was even possible!?! [/sarcasm]
