Razr Maxx HD, Galaxy S3 or Something Else

Right now I'm currently using a HTC Thunderbolt... and a semi-broken one at that. The touch screen seems to get stuck at the most annoying of times, most likely due to a minor fall the phone received a couple weeks ago. I was due for an upgrade in Jan but had to wait until now and I've been wanting a new phone for a while now.

I've narrowed it down to two choices the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Droid Razr Maxx HD. Both phones offer pretty much the same specs. Reviews I've seen for both phones are glowing with only minor issues coming up like the Razr's supposed crappy camera and the Galaxy's cheap feel and dim screen.

After much mulling it over, I feel like the Razr is the best choice for me as I would much prefer the longer lasting battery like it offers and the durability of the phone. However, an employee at the Verizon store stated that there are glitches associated with the Razr. I figure all phones come with annoying glitches and the guy didn't really specify any certain glitches (he just said "it had glitches").

I could also possibly wait until the Galaxy S4 gets released or hope that the Sony Xperia Z gets released for Verizon. I could also just get my Thunderbolt replaced and stick with my grandfathered unlimited data, but the Thunderbolt even when working at full potential is slow and high end games lag bad.

I tend to us my phone mostly for Internet/Youtube, games, music, and of course making and receiving phone calls. I also use it as a watch, calender, calculator, flashlight, and on rare occasions as a camera.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments on the phones I've mentioned it would be great.

This is what I need from my phone:

Needs to be an Android Phone (I have no intention of getting a Windows phone, Iphone, or BlackBerry)-
-Needs to be available for Verizon (I really don't feel like spending the extra cash for an unlocked phone)
-Fast Internet Speeds (outside of Wifi)
-Fast Loading Speeds in general
-Plays all types of games without a hitch
-Great Audio sound for music
-SD Card Slot
-Screen isn't impossible to see in the day
-Has a great battery life (especially on 4G)

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Forums! :ciao:

Well, I am not sure of the RAZR, but have heard and seen a little of it and it looks like a real solid device. I would go with the S3 as I find the screen to be plenty bright and internet speeds are good IMO. The loading speeds are great especially when I updated it to Jelly Bean and it plays games very nice. Audio I find to be pretty good and it comes with an SD card slot and has good battery life I find. As for seeing the screen well in daylight I am not sure, but would imagine it could be visible. Had my S3 for awhile now and am very happy with it. I don't know much about the RAZR, but to me it also looks like a good device. That's my opinions and what I have experienced with the S3 and hopefully someone can chime in on what the RAZR is like for them. Hope you find the device you love and hope you enjoy it. :)

Me too. Honestly, I've heard opinions from other people about the S3 and have been told on multiple occasions to just wait for the S4 (even though there's no guarantee it's going to be a great phone).

I haven't heard anyone talk about the Razr HD. Only what I've read in reviews. It would really help knowing if there is anything wrong with the Razr besides the camera.

Personally, I like the idea of a Kevlar back and Gorilla Glass screen. Durability is a pretty important factor too.

Being a new 4 day owner of the S3 here, I say you can't go wrong with it.

Display in sun, as long as you don't have the brightness set to completely low, it's very easy to see it outside.

Battery, I haven't had mine long enough to show the true colors on how it acts, but I can take it off the charger at 8am and ill probably have around 30% left with moderate use at midnight. Don't know about anything of the razr hd so I can't compare.

On to the s4, the S3 already does everything I want/need it to, I'm a heavy gamer too (rpg and high end racing mostly), and I've never experienced any lag yet. In my opinion, the 4 couldn't be too much better than what the 3 is minus larger display and more un needed ram. 2 gigs is more than enough I believe.

I'm fairly biased here when I say I'd go for the s3.

Good luck and let us known what you choose :)

I have a RAZR Maxx HD. Great phone.

Common pros:
Battery
Screen
Feels good in hand
Speed
Smart actions
Closest to bare android
Great build
Good reception

Common cons:
Lag
Camera is the worst of top-end smart phones
On screen buttons
Bluetooth issues (might just be jb)
Not enough ram (1gb)
Battery is not removeable
Poor custom ROM selection
No jb root (only ICS)

The lag is different for everyone - and it only happens when you upgrade to jb. Some say it is avoidable with a factory reset after the jb update.

Personally, I love the phone. The battery is a huge draw. The materials are top notch. I don't have any problems with lag. The camera has blurriness sometimes, but most of the time pictures come out good. Smart actions are clutch if you're worried about having the battery last for as long as possible. And I get to have a ton of songs and videos with this phone and never have to worry about storage. That just about sums up my personal experience with this phone: worry free, especially with battery and storage.

If you're gonna go RAZR HD, I'd say you should go with the Maxx. Get a price match with best buy. that's what I did, and it saved me a hundred bucks.
