Jump ship to metro get s3 now or wait it out ?

Hey guys I was previously on metro with the lg esteem but I went to virgin mobile for the Eco 3d since virgin hasn't stepped up their game I was was thinking of coming back to metro but I know their merging with tmobile and I was wondering should I jump the gun now and get the s3.

Supposedly the merger will bring bigger and better things to metro so I don't really need to rush. I was probably going to switch at the end of summer so around September. Do you think anything really good will actually be out by then. Anyway thanks.

If you wait for the merger you can get any unlocked phone, such as the (soon to be announced) Galaxy S4. You can also go straight to Tmobile now with an unlocked Nexus 4, which is actually cheaper than an S3 at Metro, and you won't have to wait for any merger.

After the merger is finalized which should be April or shortly thereafter you can start bringing unlocked phones like the 2nd post said so just wait out

as part of my public service of ensuring i dont appear to be onesided towards a better brand,

have you considered switching to metropcs and buying the ZTE avid 4G? it is fast and affordable. You can root it and load up a custom recovery that you cant flash anything in. it is truly a marvelous device at only 80 bucks.

If the merger actually goes through, I still think that T mobile will be the better side of the road to be on. But we shall see.

Being that T mobile is moving towards strictly pre paid, they have amazing unlimited plans with very good prices. Plus their HSPA+ 21 speeds average faster than most major carriers' LTE speeds and their +42 speeds average as some of the fastest data speeds out there. IMO, you get much more for your money with T mobile. Plus you can choose just about any phone that you want.


Not sure if your dead set on getting the S3 but there are better phones for the money out there if you were to choose to go the t mobile route. But if your in no hurry then I would wait it out and see how things play out. But if your dead set on metro, then you can just grab one of those cheap phones that are great for the money and play it out that way.

I wouldn't say Metro's LTE because my Edge speeds are faster than my Metro's LTE speeds were. lol. HSPA+42 is faster than Verizon's LTE average hands down. Now of course some areas hit higher speeds than others which is why I said average. That chart someone posted up says a lot about Metro's LTE speed averages and others as well. Even though it had ATT as the top when all the ATT speeds I've seen are horrid. Beyond horrid. But it's about average.

I don't care if it's called HSPA, "Faux 4", or penis G. The number is the only thing that matters. What it's called means nothing. If 3G speeds are faster than LTE speeds, then the fact it's 3G and not 4G means nothing. Except that LTE is a blood sucking battery draining whore. lol

i wonder how much they will charge and whats the data cap only time will tell my requirments for a phone are the screen must be as big as the s3 or larger and have similar or better specs. I like big phones lol

Yeah I agree. Love the size of my s3. Would love to get hold of a note 2. That's a good incentive to go to tmobile, if u like big phones like I do

The only problem I have with Tmous, is the signal goes out in buildings with a metal roof. Even with wifi calling, the call quality is horrible. I hope the merger doesn't ruin Metros signal under a metal roof. The only way I can even make a call is to hold my phone by a window, and use bluetooth. This made me switch, my brothers(4 of them), my mom, dad, and a bunch of other people I know, all jumped ship to Metro only to find out they are merging lol.
I really hope Tmous doesn't ruin Metro...

Metro doesn't operate on the same freq per say as T mobile. So T mobile won't "ruin" Metro. If it goes the way the big wigs want, T mobile will "save" Metro.

But to the signal issue. I work in a warehouse about the size of a football field that's basically one giant metal shoe box and the only time I "might" notice a signal issue is when all the doors are closed but the only issue i notice i that I end up on 3G and not HSPA+. ATT is the same way. But both have made a lot of changes and improvements to the bands that penetrate buildings to get better reception. The 1700 band i think it is. IDK. This goes back to what I said earlier about T mobile listening to their customers complaints and trying to fix major issues from which building penetration was one of them.

But I would do some research and learn about signal, what carriers use what, reception and then read up about what the merger actually plans to do between the 2 companies. Might help to understand it a little more.

Metro and tmobile both run on 1900MHz & 1700/2100MHz not the same exact frequency within those band but if they're in the same band it doesn't make much difference so its all about location of towers & tower output power(range) tmobile might purposely be limiting the range of some towers idk why though even metro has more users per tower than them.

Well personally I'm sticking to the Metro side of it, I want to be grandfathered into the merger with my existing $55 plan...the cheapest unlimited on TMmo is $80...

Not sure what plans your looking at but the Unlimited Monthly 4G plan is $70. 2GB plan is 60. Bring your own SIM plans- Unlimited is $69.99. Of course you've got Simple and Straight Talk that are $45 and $50 for unlimited which is the better way to go as it's the same service your just paying the middle man that "rents" the towers instead of the people who "owns" them. T mobile's main contract plans are $80 and up but those plans are going to be done away with soon as they move towards strictly pre paid.

But being grandfathered in is great especially if your getting great data speeds and are happy with your phone. When I left I had the OG $40 unlimited plan that only counted streaming towards my data usage. That was a great plan and it took everything I had to leave it but as soon as I did I was mad that I didn't do it sooner. In my case I really did "get what I paid for" but I only realized that after the fact. Is what it is though.

Oh, I have read, and read. I changed radios, and roms. Just seems like Tmous just doesn't like metal roof tops. My buddy with Att had the same problem. No one ever complained that had Sprint, or Verizon. It just seems like the Cdma phones are better. Aside from that, you would think both the Hspa, Hspa+, And 4G LTE would respond the same way, sense they are based off of the same technology. (GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies) That being said, I lost my data, ability to make calls, and send text messages with my Tmo phone. But, with my Metro phones there was not one problem. It doesn't make sense cause I don't lose my 4G LTE signal, but I lost H, and H+. This is the funny part...When I went 2 feet out of my house I got 4 bars of H, but as soon as I stepped inside bam... it was gone. I get 4 bars of 4G LTE outside with my metro phone but when I come in my house it dropped to 1-2 bars of 4G LTE. So to me beings that they are based on the same technology, should have about the same effect. I know its not going to be the same, and I know there are a lot of things to think about, and needs to be taken into consideration. The Gsm based phone lost all ability to send receive texts, and calls making me think the older Gsm based technologies that are used to take care of that, are not able to penetrate metal roof tops. Now, looking at the Cdma phones they did not have any problems, which makes me think the Cdma technology is stronger and penetrates buildings with metal roof tops better. Looking at all of this you would think LTE would have the same effect, but it is similar cause it does lose some signal, just not all of it. Either or, I hope they step their game up, cause otherwise I will be going with Virgin mobile again.

They need a better price for prepaid. Not paying more than $45 I hope they don't eliminate the current prepaid $30 plan
