Official dock available in the Play Store

Somethings not right - is this the pogo version? Description states "The micro USB port in the Nexus 7 Dock makes charging easy, so the fun never has to end!"

Its also out of stock - again.

I believe...

The dock connects to your standard micro USB charger. The Nexus then sits in the dock and connects via pogo pins.

It is also 220mm long and the N7 is 198.5mm in height suggesting the N7 lies in landscape on the dock.

While its $29, tax and shipping brings it to a total just shy of $39. Still no big deal really. Although, for me I would have preferred a model that stood the device up in portrait rather than landscape. Just a bit less space that it would take up on my night stand. Mine is scheduled to be delivered on Monday.

It's in stock in the UK (well, 1 - 2 weeks), and indeed I've just ordered it :)

The dock has arrived, barely more than 24 hours after I ordered it!

It does seem expensive, but I'm getting nervous about wear to the USB socket, particularly since my niece seems to think violence is the best way to get the charging cable in if it's being troublesome. The dock is nice and solid and the N7 slots in easily. I doubt the dock will get used much for watching films or whatever - it will mostly be used for charging.

That was quick!

Im confused about your concern for wear to the usb socket. Doesn't the dock use the pogo connectors to charge the N7, so you connect your usb charger (once) to the back of the dock and then the pogo connectors charge the N7 ?

I've been using an iHome "dock" since I bought my N7, and while it doesn't do anything other than just stand the device up and act as a speaker for it, I really don't see this Asus dock replacing it. Maybe not for now, we'll see in the future.

The only reason I want the official dock is its supposed to use the 'pogo' connectors to charge. So you don't have to unplug/replug the device to charge, you just drop it in the dock and it charges via the pogo connector (no plugging in required).

Im starting to believe my initial thought is coming true. I don't think this $29 dock uses pogo pins to charge. Back in January when the 'official' dock was announced, the BIG feature was the 'pogo' charging AND it was priced at $39. Now we have this $29 version appear and no mention of pogo pin charging - somethings fishy.

Can anyone confirm that THIS $29 dock uses pogo pins to charge?

If it uses the mini-usb plug to charge, I can get multiple Chinese made docks for a fraction of the price. :(

Oops yes, I meant the USB port will wear less now I'm using the stand to charge my N7.

having used the dock for a day I really like it. It's much easier to just drop the N7 onto the dock than fiddle with the charging cable. I'd say it's the next best thing to a wireless charger.

When you put the N7 on the dock it does into daydream, and I amused myself playing around with the various settings for this (in Settings, Display). However I've now disabled daydream since I plan to leave the N7 on the charger when I'm not using it and I dont want the screen on 24 x 7.

@magohn: my dock charges the tablet via the pogo pins, so unless we're talking about different docks you should be fine.

Thanks so much for the clarification. I can now go back to obsessively checking if its in stock. :)

Ordered mine yesterday and got the shipping notification this morning. I have awful vision without glasses and just try to put it in using both ways until it goes in. The pogo pins charging will be great. I also use the Nexus 7 for workout videos and having a stand will be nice. I hope that it is relatively heavy. If not, then I might attach it to something with a little weight. I plan to normally leave it on my desk connected to my desktop for charging. I have a dual-USB plug that I was thinking of using to connect it to my desktop so that it would charge faster than a single USB. My previous desktop had high-power USB ports which would have been nice but my daughter wanted a gaming rig so I gave her my custom-built desktop and I use something older.

I think that the concept of pogo pins is great. Certainly a cheaper solution than wireless charging.

I ordered the dock and, according to my shipping notification, it should arrive today. One of the major uses for my N7 is as an alarm clock so I am anxious to get the dock so I can make it a more useful clock.

I like the idea of the pogo pins for charging as it's kind of a pain to have to plug the micro USB in when I want to charge.

To the poster that stated that he wanted a dock that is used in portrait mode instead of landscape, there are a number of docks out there like that and they use the micor USB port for charging. I waited for the "official" dock because I wanted the landscape orientation that used the pogo pins.

edit: I just happened upon this listing on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B009UQZPA0/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new Holy cow! $190 for the dock with $10 shipping!

Funny that you should mention that as this past weekend was daylight savings and I was thinking that it would be nice if clocks could auto-adjust like all of our computers and mobile devices.
