Hello, all.

I am having some issues with my Spirit and wanted to see if any others have experienced the same.

I will note that I am rooted, and don't remember having any issues before root. However, rooting doesn't (shouldn't) cause any problems as it's just permission control. I'll go through my apps and see if there are any that could be causing me some issues.

I've only had this happen twice now, but during the night (whether charging or not), my phone will turn off and I can't turn it back on. The only thing that will "reset" the problem is to remove the battery and put it back in.

I have also encountered a random reboot during use, but blame Chrome for that issue.

Has anyone else had any problems with their Spirits?

I'm also unfamiliar with what Metro can do for me if I have a bad device. If I have a lemon, what is the simplest and cheapest way I can get it replaced?

Thanks, guys!

I've had mine 2 weeks now and no, none, Reboots, FCs or battery pulls needed. I have had a few data glitches but I did one network reset and the rest I attribute to network wonkyness.

I haven't had to return a phone yet to Metro (knock on wood) but were it me, I'd start by logging down the times/dates of the FCs, Reboots, etc; so that I could demonstrate to them it was consistently ongoing and disruptive to your ability to use the phone.

I have the same exact problem. I just recently upgraded to a smart phone(late to the party I know) and got the Spirit. I've had it for 4 days and 2 of the 4 days at night its turned itself off and I have no idea why. It has also turned off twice during the day randomly after I use it.

I have no idea what to really do. Should I take it to Metro? Its only 4 days old, and I also paid the extra $5 for insurance if that even covers it at all, but this is hugely irritating, especially since I use my phone as my alarm for work.

I haven't had any issues, If you take it to a Metro corporate store and they feel there is a problem with it for $10 you can get a refurb if they have one. I think for a little more they will give you a new one onsite.

@LipsWaterman the 4 day old one, depending on how much talk time you have used, they will replace it with a new one for free. better do it quick.

OH by the way, don't forget LG has that battery/power save mode built in, that thing will shut your phone off to save battery consumption. You should check your settings.

Thanks for the info. I may actually do that if it gets worse.

I don't it's a power saver function because my battery was charged 100% when the behavior occurred. Really weird...

I might be forced to wipe my phone and see if the behavior still happens, but that's probably plan Z at this point. :D I hate starting over from scratch!

use the LG backup app, it really works

But if an app is causing it, wouldn't that just reinstall his problem? Could also make a nandroid backup, wipe the phone, reinstall root, then use it for a while with no 3rd party apps to see if the problem follows. Then you could always reinstall the backup.

no you doen't have to reinstall apps, it backs up settings and all. you can choose to just reinstall pre installed app/downloaded apps, bookmarks, calendar, call log, contacts, home screen, message, system settings. It gives you check box on what you want to re install. Guess you never used the app?

The onboard native LG Back-up App is supposed to work pretty well. I need to get a good deal on a Good micro-SD card. And, it's free. I think you lose app and game data but everything else should be there on Restore.

My battery was also at 100%. I've only used like 40 minutes of talk time so far and thats it.

My power saver mode is turned off so I doubt its that. I called my local store and they have none of the Spirit left(I had to order one to reserve mine). Do you know how much talk time it would take before they wouldn't replace it? I mean there has to be some form of return policy if a product isn't working less than a week into it.

Since I pay for the insurance monthly, would that cover it or is that a lost cause?

Never had to, i uninstalled it. Sounds nifty though. I'll give it a chance.

The insurance is for physical damage like water. and you have to pay half the price of the phone to get a new one.

The phone has to be UNDER 60 minutes TALK time and LESS than 7 days old with no water or physical damage. To return it.

Tough call with the local store not having any. I'd investigate ALL stores remotely nearby to you.

According to the below you have 7 days from original purchase for a full refund and your warranty for a Metro bought phone is for 1 year in store. Plus you have your insurance.

I'd first be sure there was NO Spirits at Metros close enough to get. I drive 35 miles to the better Corporate store here.

Push come to shove and I don't know for sure but I'd assume you could take your phone in, tell them you intend to return it, even do the return paperwork on it and let them see if they will let you keep the phone you have in service until the new one comes in.

I would have your guns loaded when you go in there. If you just say "oh my phone turns off now and then" and don't make them aware that you have an Ongoing Serious issue, you are likely to get jerked around.

Returns;
Unlimited Wireless Service - MetroPCS

Warranty;
Unlimited Wireless Service - MetroPCS

You could also try and start the return either on-line (Chat) or calling it in. Of course, I'd expect them to have you doing all the factory resets, wait 2 hrs, try again, lather, rinse, repeat before they get to the send you a new phone part.

The Corporate store doesn't do parts. They will just have you pay the refurb price. if they have one there it's a small fee of like 10 bucks or you can have them order a new one for more bucks. Could also be a battery issue so they may just give you a new battery to try and see if it still does it. I've been through this stuff with them before.

the Insurance is only for damage. like water.

This is in responce to the original post and NOT all the other stuff... I have been having the exact same issues for the last 4 days. NOT rooted yet and don't no why it's doing it. It can sit on my table for an hour or two and then no wake up or if it does, it locks once it's open. Have to pull the battery. Other than that, I LOVE THIS PHONE! SO, if you have it for less than a week and have less than an hour talk or data time on it they will refund or exchange with NO PROBLEM! Mines going back tomorrow for a new replacement. I've only got 37 minute on it - been testing and playing with it for the 4 days before committing!!!

hope the new one gives you a better experience. to me it sounds like a screen issue.

Well it wasn't my phone! It's GOOD. Went over to the Metro Corp Store were I bought my Spirit and the dude checked it out said it was good. Apparently what had been going on is "App's" are a lot like regular PC software. Some app's don't PLAY well with others. Remember your trusting THIRD PARTY APP's & Dev's. No Guarantee's. He reset the phone and low and behold problems disappeared. Gotta keep remembering that the celly is a radio(like CB) attached to a computer. Yah, I've got to spend time reloading some stuff but Hay, small price to pay for finding this out! I believe the app that caused me my problems was an app that, at a phone call's end it takes you right back to the home screen. Can't remember the name but that's the only recent thing I've installed. Anyhow, suggestion was - put one app on at a time and run it for a day or so to make sure stuff is all right. I will heed the gentleman's advice this time......

Hey all,

Ive had the spirit for about 2 months. I bought it used on ebay and it came rooted. All was well until i noticed about 80% of calls incoming and outgoing all would default to speaker phone. Even if i was using earbuds or a headset. and on top of that when dialing out most times there would be a 30 to 45 second delay before the call is placed. I mean whats the point of having a smartphone thats crappy at being a phone?

I tryed everything from uninstalling all 3rd party apps, wipeing the phone and starting over to actually unrooting the phone. It still defaults to speaker! Has any one experienced this issue or have any ideas? because im out of them other than "accidentally" breaking the screen and paying the deductible for replacement.

please help
Thanks
