Casio Type-L Update?

:questionmark:
Just wondering if any insiders, dev's, or lurkers have any updates on the Casio Type-L? As I understand, its currently being retailed under limited production in Japan only. I've also read there will be hardware and cosmetic differences between the Asian and US versions. It looks pretty sweet and should be MUCH MUCH faster based on the specs. Anyone out there confirm/deny these rumors or have any other intel??? Links are always nice.... thanks in advance for any input!

While I finally found some love for my OG Commando after the M130 root discovery, I never fell head over heels for this phone. My hope is Casio has learned something from their first foray into smartphones and have vastly improved their design...

OK, I managed to get a hold of a Casio rep, grilled him with questions despite his tight-lipped corporate attitude and determined several facts regarding the Type-L...

1) It IS in limited distribution in Japan and is quickly becoming popular due to improved speed, battery life, and ruggedness. National-level distribution expected in April, with global distribution following. This is as close to a release date as I could get.

2) He could not say with 100% accuracy, but the stock batt is supposed to be 2400 (not bad) and a 3000 mAh extended will be made avilable (may be good depending on $)

3) Verizon is most definitely offloading Commandos by the truckload to make room for new product. Available on Amazon.com for pennies!

4) The US version will definitely have cosmetic and some OS adjustments from its Asian counterpart. No details there, sadly :(

5) He claimed the new SnapDragon processor and buffed RAM will triple speed over Commando. Hmm I'm optimistic, others with more geek knowledge can touch on this.

6) The bad news... they have gone to great lengths to eliminate rooting methods. They apparently researched deeply into exploits and he concluded that discussion by saying "Don't even try". Corporate types... BAH!

Hopefully others will chime in with fresh news. If y'all have any friends in Japan, try to get em to take some picks and send some reviews!!!

...I'll believe it when I see it. The spec sheet that was leaked a couple of months back said 1800.
I'll take a 2400. And a 3000 would be pretty darn sweet... Assuming that it isn't some silly $300 upgrade...

Again, we'll see. Of course, the Commando was never intended to be a top-of-the line phone. I'll be happy if it responds well while still being able to be tossed to the bottom of a concrete swimming pool.

Read: Choked to the gills with Verizon crapware. :( Booooooo!

any new word on when the Type L may make a debut? I've talked to Verizon and they seem to have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm holding off on upgrading hoping that this model will be available soon.

I'm due for an upgrade in August. As you mentioned, Verizon has no clue about any replacement (surprised?). I really like my rooted phone and have finally got it working the way I want it to! Hope it makes it by then or I will just wait for it.

Remember Sony's PSP and how uncrackable it was? Anything can be hacked. Even our most secure computers. A little elbow geese and millions of kids and big kids across the world screwing with these gadgets.... eventually an exploit will be discovered. Though there are a few different ways to skin a cat... after a while they all start to seem the same. Exploits from one gadget often resonate towards that of another. It is not as though Casio is the sought after leader of the securing mobile phones world. But like Sony, I do anticipate some obstacles.

They have a lot going against them... namely.... US!!!!!

How long did it take this community to crack the M130 update? 6 months? As you said, all it takes is a little know how and the right people and viola, cracked!
Hope it hits here soon!

I used the commando since it came out. Enjoyed it...and enjoyed being a fairly early root user.......boy was it a huge step up dumping all the bloat.
As much as I enjoyed it.......switching to the Samsung S4 was not a mistake. This thing came out a few months ago and there are already at least two recoveries and a few dozen custom and standard Roms out....even the Google edition without TouchWiz.

The cool thing is that the upcoming release of the S4 Active, their rugged phone, is imminent. It has almost the same bad ass specs as my S4....but is waterproof.

The new Casio specs are so so........and they will try anything to keep you from rooting this moderately powered device. Yawn.

You will not believe the power and use ability of the S4..........I am still amazed....and now on my 2nd custom ROM plus a few personal tweaks. Oh....and it has temp, humidity, and barometer.
If I break it....Active model will be my replacement.....without looking back.

To those who stay with Casio........best wishes!
