Root Root process simplification

IS it just me, or does it seem that the rooting process is becoming more and more complicated and a bit Rube Goldberg-y?


Will someone, at some point, write an automated script for the Dinc 4G? Download one package, click one button or two, and have it all automated like the old days of unrevoked on the OG Dinc? Even my Rezound was overcomplicated to get s-off. Please, please, please, someone build an all included, automated package. Please!

The bootloader unlock method on xda already has an automated script option and the s off method by unlimited io is fairly simple, in fact the actual dirtyracun script is automated. You must complete a few simple steps to prep for the script but still.....I would be willing to help you if you'd like.

I might take you up on that. Some things are just confusing, like the part where it says i must temp root in the middle of unlocking.

Are you talking of s off? You do not unlock you lock your boot loader than run ruu.zip than temp root using the fireballas method in which there is a script which will automate temp root alone. When or if you decide to do it pm me and I'll try to help you out.

To be honest, i would be perfectly happy with a bootloader unlock, temp recovery flash so i can flash SU, then go back to stock recovery like i did on the Rezound. I am not wanting to flash ROMs, just run some root apps.

Maybe. But would it really be that hard to put together an automated script? Far less chance of human error that way, IMO.

The temp root you need for dirty racun is not hard. I've seen plenty of script failures,and they are much harder to troubleshoot and figure out.

Even considering your needs id agree to do s off,as the inc 4g is not officially supported by htcdev,and must be temp rooted and the cid changed to make it work. The s off process is not any harder.

Also,the visual affects of htcdev are not removable,while the visual affects of s off are.

The actual dirty work of S off is gained after running the dirty racun which at this point its click it and watch and read a comical series of sentences about the racun sneaking around your system. Unlocking your boot loader will void your warranty and leave a watermark on your splash screen and will say tampered in bootloader. There is already an automated script to unlock your bootloader so if that's all you want or willing to do I don't understand what your asking.

Well, in the middle of the s-off process it says you must temproot by any method available. In the middle of the process? Do you have to leave the dirtyracun program to do that? Can you be temprooted before? Where do you flash a recovery? These things aren't clear to me.

I have s-off on both my rezound and OG Dinc, and neither one were this complicated.

run the option to temproot remember run ONLY the temproot option than close the script and proceed onto the next step in dirty racun.

And in that temproot process is says to unlock with HTCDev. That no longer works with the Dinc4G

IMO the wire trick utilized by jp bear is more complicated than having to temp root to run dirty raccun.

however,after reading thru the dirty raccun directions again,i realized that is no longer windows supported. you will also have to create a ubuntu 32 bit live cd in order to use this tool. if this is an issue,it may be a good idea to just unlock the bootloader for now. the inc4gunlock 3.5.rar link at the bottom of the post linked by praire looks like it will do most everything for you,including install the recovery. i havent run this script but i imagine that it will require you to also sign up at htcdev so you can submit the token that the script generates.

this may suit your needs,however you will not be able to remove the relocked watermark. if your proficient at linux,or know someone who is,s off is still the better way to go.

i downloaded both versions of team fireballas script. neither looks like it has an option to temp root,so can you clarify the above? just run option 1 to unlock bootloader(wich i assume will temp root,change cid,and provide an unlock token)??

it is flashed later. as an RUU in fastboot,or as a PJ53IMG in hboot,as dirty racun does not unlock the bootloader.

the inc4gunlock 3.5.rar link at the bottom of the post linked by praire looks like it will do most everything for you,including install the recovery.

htcdev unlock is availble if the CID is changed. the tool will temp root,change the cid,and provide you with an identifier token. you will manually submit the token to htcdev. save the unlock_code.bin to the extracted tool folder. it will unlock,and it will install the recovery. all youll have to do afterward is boot to recovery,and use the menus to manually flash the supersu file.

again,if you want to htcdev unlock and stay s on,just download,extract, and run the tool. its that easy.

The unlock bootloader option, just run it you will be amazed on how easy it all goes.

if you download the one i suggested above,it contains a recovery image,so you dont need anythig other than superuser(cant link atm but its same one used on the rezound)

if you download the one with the temp root option,youll need to download a seperate recovery image and add it to the folder. id suggest twrp rather than CW,and not knowing anything about the scripts internals,id venture to guess yes,rename the image "recovery"(dont add the ext,since windlows likes to do that,and hide it,automatically)

in either case,you just need to download the script,and extract it. put it anywhere easy to find- root of C,or even desktop. click "run me" inside the folder. after that,yes,all automated,with exception of submitting the identifier token to htc to get the unlock_code.
