wifi speed test Note 2 v S3

Just done a wifi speed test with my Note 2 and my S3. Interesting to see the Note 2 is 75% slower than the S3 for download and 50% slower for upload.
Test was done on speedtest.net

As for me, my wireless network is randomly bouncing from good to bad and vice versa. But its dependent on how crowded the band is and how many users. Also how the router handles the traffic between the devices.

Yeah you aren't the first person whom has brought this up. I hear the performance of the Note 2 is better but you get better speeds on the S3.

This is what I get with wifi on the note2:

In case you have trouble making out the reduced image it is 42Mb/s down and 60Mb/s (a couple of other runs had over 75Mb/s upload (which seems a bit high to me))

actually the above was the lowest score; download tended towards 50Mb/s and upload 70Mb/s. LTE kind of sucked was only around 3Mb/s/2Mb/s (cambridge).

Desktop : 4.5 Mbps download, 0.6 Mbps upload. SGN2: 3.1 Mbps download, 1.1 Mbps upload. Accepted that our Internet service provider Bsnl(Kolkata, India) is no Schumacher. But why this difference in upload speed?

I don't know but at such low speeds the phone is not the bottleneck. As I demonstrated with the right infrastructure you can do signfiicantly better.

You have to remember that a wired network is faster than a wireless network hands down. No questions about it. With a wired network you are directly plugged in with nothing interfering with the connection. Which is why I have the majority of my network wired (computers, notebooks, PS3, etc). It is more reliable and have better communication speeds (1Gb connections).

With wireless, you have to consider signal degradation, signal interference, overhead, throughput, etc. Wireless will be inconsistent, be dropped and fluctuate based on many factors.

For my Note 2, I sometimes get really bad tests. The lowest I got for my WiFi connection was 3.2Mbps down and 1.23Mbps up. The highest was 14.56Mbps down and 10.97Mbps up. The Note 2 always fluctuates on these tests and give inconsistent readings.

My computer on the other hand has been pretty consistent with these tests. Always setting in between 14-15Mbps down and 10Mbps up.

You appear to be missing the point here. I am not comparing my phones to my pc, I'm comparing phone to phone on wifi speeds.
Both phones were next to each other and the same distance from the router. Where the Note2 had a download speed of 8 mps and an upload speed of 2 mps the S3 was downloading at 32 mps and uploading at 4 mps

While this is partially true I don't think this is strictly true. Different hardware can make a difference for various reasons. Unfortunately the OP simply isn't providing enough details to make further comments.

Something that can impact performance include encryption technology (wpa, wpa2, ...) band (2.4ghz, 5.0ghz, ...), packet loss, test server, latency to test server, ...

I understand there are variables but I'm in the same boat as the OP. In fact I started a similar thread. The uploads / download speed of my GN 2 is much lower than my other devices. For a device of this size I would expect a very powerful wifi card.

I feel the same way. GN2 is MUCH slower on my home network than all my other Wifi devices, pc's and iPad2. I don't think re-configuring my rotor is the answer. My examples are more extreme. Wireless PC (2 1/2 years old) 24 MG download, GN2 5 MG. LTE speed 15 MG. It's something slow with the wireless card in my my GN2. Sorry for the hijack of this thread.

I have Fibre connection and the speeds I have from my ISP are 15/10 with unlimited bandwidth. My Note 2 can hit those speeds most of the time.

However, I can only obtain 72Mbps on my 2.4 GHz band and 150Mbps on my 5GHz band. The router is capable of 450/450 Mbps on either band. So it is slow on home network.
