This is a review of FlyGrip smart phone accessory which enables handling of your phone with one hand. FlyGrip - Welcome

Some pieces of new technology are so innovative they become a part of new vocabulary. Some might argue if FlyGrip is one of those, but I can tell you from my personal experience that lately I have been referring to anything that allows me to hold my phone or tablet with one hand as "flygrip style" :) Now, I got a chance to test it out and to share with you my first "one" hand experience with it!

The product itself comes in a very cool package, something you would expect to house a premium electronic gadget. Along with a FlyGrip, you get an extra adhesive double sided strip, alcohol swab, 2 foam pads, a very detailed instruction chart and something I totally didn't expect - a high quality free TPU case. In my pictorial review I actually vent into more details about that case. I have tested a number of slim TPU cases, and can tell you this one feels like a premium Mercury case with a bonus of a better lip protection bumper. You actually get a choice of 7 different case colors. I chose a black one, very nice shinny outside with matte soft inside finish, all precise cutouts, not as slippery as some other cases I have tested, and with a great non-slip grip when you place it on a surface, and decent lip to keep the screen of the surface once placed down. Overall, I was very impressed with this generous gesture of including a free case. Another great benefit of a bonus case - you don't have to make a "commitment" which of your favorite cases you want to modify now to use with FlyGrip. A lot of Note 2 users have different cases for different occasions, so perhaps you can keep this TPU case for your FlyGrip functionality, or you can remove FlyGrip later and place it on to another case. Removal should be easy, although sticky double strip can't be re-used. For that you will need to use another one included in the package, or you can order for a few bucks a packs of more adhesives.

Now, to the FlyGrip itself. The one I got was in black, and there is an options for a ton of different colors, designs, patterns. It has a relatively small footprint; I measured it to be approximately 2.1" x 1.2" x 0.3" with the last one being a thickness when it's closed flat. Once latched, it securely stays flat and shouldn't pop open. It's actually a very clever mechanical design, patent pending, and latching itself should last for a long time since it's made out of high quality plastic material where you shouldn't expect wear any time soon. Once unlatched, it pops open allowing you to slide two fingers under the tab between the middle separator. FlyGrip comes in 3 different sizes, so it's not a one size fits all thus making you select which one will fit your hand/fingers better. For enhanced comfort you also get two foam pads, which could be placed for a snugger fit if necessary. Furthermore, you can tilt and latch the tab to turn it into a kick stand. This particular kickstand should work in both landscape and portrait for most of the phones, although for a large phones such as Note 2 the FlyGrip in small/medium sizes will only work in landscape while large one will work in both. I have been told by FlyGrip they are working on a new improved version for small/medium sizes and for those Note 2 owners who already purchased it - will send it as a free replacement once that solution is available. Another great bonus point for a company who is committed to it's customers to the point of offering free replacement to fix the problem, which honestly is not really that big of a problem to begin with since most of the Note 2 users need kickstand for landscape only.

Overall, this is a fantastic product of a very high quality and with a very useful functionality! One thing I do have to mention that by placing FlyGrip on your phone, you will not be able to lay it down flat on it's back without wobbling or type comfortably on your phone while placed on a flat hard surface. But I had no issues typing on my phone on it's back while on a couch. Plus, it also makes it easier to fish out your phone out of the pocket by grabbing FlyGrip. I also think its a MUST have accessory for anybody with extended battery/case. Just in general, its a VERY addictive accessory since now you want to drag your phone everywhere because of additional piece of mind that you have extra security to hold it in one hand without dropping it down! Definitely makes use of the phone a lot more secure!

Thanks, for the kitchen compliment lol!!! It's the best lighted spot in the house to take pictures with camera's flash off, and now all the review pictures are taken in there (as you can see from my signature link to other reviews - they all have the same background lol!!!). And as usual my wife comments "oh, now everybody have to see mess in our kitchen" :D

Btw, forgot to mention that FlyGrip also partnered with Bethany Hamilton (famous surfer who lost her one arm after encountering shark attack) who is making some exclusive designs for them. With a FlyGrip and a smart phone with a screen size no bigger than 4"-4.5" to reach top-to-bottom, it's totally possible to use one hand to operate it.

Such a cool idea... but at .3" thick it essentially doubles the thickness of the phone. That is too bulky for everyday, but may make a good occasional case, like you say. Personally I wish they made cases with an elastic hand strap for a secure hold with little added bulk. That is my next DIY project.
