I'm kind of a sucker for really cool but often useless or unnecessary apps but here it goes.

Locale - Changes settings based on location, like silent when at work
Google Skymap, use the compass and accelerometer to look at skyformations
Shopsavvy - scan barcodes to find better prices online and in stores(great for books)
OIShopping list - great shopping list app

LOL I have been giving this a good deal of thought as well. Oct 11th will be here before we know it.

I definitely want Locale, Pandora, Flixster and one of the multi IM clients. Probably going to need a task killer too.

yeah ive been doing some research and have a word document with a few apps to download...

i feel like a kid waiting for christmas haha

Meebo IM - allows you to sign into lots of different IM clients (Yahoo, Google, MSN, Facebook chat, ICQ, etc) and you can sign into them all at the same time, or choose which individual ones to sign into. You can then talk to your contacts as normal.

3G Watchdog - if you have a data limit with your network for mobile internet, this app allows you to input that limit, input your month start date (i.e. when you contract minutes reset for reach month), and it tracks your usage and warns you when you're set to go over the limit. You can choose at what point and how soon you want it to warn you.

ASTRO - a simple file manager, but absolutely crucial. Nothing glamorous, but you will need it.

A Online Radio - fairly self-explanatory, I would imagine :D.

Trapster - if you're a driver, this is a great app. Tells you all the local speed traps in your area, as well as hotspots for hiding police.

300+ Apps??
Wow I looked at the android market with my PC because I do not have an android phone yet and I must say it is difficult to navigate and see/find what is available.

I guess you need to view it on a android handset - but then you cannot see what is available before you sign the contract for a phone ;(

What is the typical cost of each app on the market place? I heard the average iphone user spends hundreds of dollars on apps and then it is tied to a single phone - so no upgrading there or sharing with your wife

I've yet to purchase an app...I have 50+. There are thousands more that are also free. Most needed apps appear to be free. Only pointless apps like "pictures of girls in bikinis" have a charge.
You'll be good to go, won't have to spend a penny after you purchase the phone, that's my experience.
