Help Sprint Updater or something else?

Been trying to do the upgrade to 2.1 by following the 2.1 for dummies thread. I cant get my comp to recognize my USB. I get to the point in the updater that says to plug in the phone and so forth and it either does NOTHING or tells me the USB is not recognized. I have already uninstalled everything and redownloaded the sprint updater and tried again. 3 attempts so far and I get the same results! Give me a solution guys!

Can you try a different USB cord? What OS are you using?

Try another computer. It will probably work. I had this issue since I had an old XP that the USB drivers were not taking. Tried another XP at my job, bam, 2.1 ftw! Good luck.

I think its like 4 years old, running windows XP. When it was first built it was top of the line stuff, but you guys know how quick technology gets old. LOL

You are putting the phone in update mode and not recovery mode correct? Has the blue box that says "downloading" and the bottom of the screen says "Do Not Turn Off Target".

Ok after I pluged it in and mounted the SD card the PC loaded the drivers and said my device is ready to use. I then powered off my phone rebooted into download mode and got to the same step in the updater and pluged my phone back in. I got the message in the tool bar that says "Samsung USB Composite Device". now its just sitting there doing nothing again. LOL

Correct, I dont know how to go recovery mode. LOL

I wish I had something more to add to help you out. I think that someone else had a similar issue and found that there were other mobile device drivers on the computer that they removed and that fixed the problem, but I cannot remember where I read that. It might have been the 2.1 sticky, but not sure. I am pretty sure it was in the last two weeks. I'm running XP Pro on a computer about the same age as yours, so I can confirm that setup is fine for this.

Yep gonna do just that, gonna drive to my girl friends place and use hers. I just hope her lap top aint too old either! LOL

You may want to place the files you downloaded (not the swupdater) onto a thumb drive and take them with you, the SDX site was having issues yesterday. It would suck to get there and not be able to download the file.

I had the same problem and windows was looking for the drivers to install. I just had it look in the folder for the sprint updater and it installed the drivers. I think you can also go in and click setup to force the install of the drivers.

make sure you uninstall everything samsung or sprint ans if you have new pc suite install it also then just install the updater and make sure your using a 2.0 usb port.
