Using nexus 4 without a case

The official bumper is very nice. I'm not sure how the other bumpers stack up, but the official one is well worth the money. Various reviews can shed some light on the look and feel. It does sort of make the device harder to use one-handed. My opinion, and I don't have particularly small hands. I do find myself going case-less though since the device feels so nice and natural without one. ;)

Yea I want to use it case-less, but I am so afraid of dropping it. It just feel amazing in hand.

The bumper, while surely beneficial, isn't going to offer the same protection as a full on case. Then you start detracting from the native feel so its a matter of opinion, choice. The risks we take.

If you're really worried about it falling then I'd get a proper case. I'd go out and drop my device with bumper on the driveway but I'm fairly certain I wouldn't like the result. ;)

He raises a valid point. All google fan boys laughed at the iphone 4 and giggled when there friends broke it. But google uses even cheaper glass as the back of there nexus 4 now its the "most beautiful designed phone i ever saw!" Its not even gorilla glass on the back its a major flaw in the phone. Hardware and specs aside its the back glass that is a major downfall of this phone. I dont care how many sparkles you put on it.

If you bought a roof for your house, and lets say one day a small tree limb lightly smacks it and the whole roof shatters, would you buy that same roof twice? Would you say eh roofs break #### happens, or would you say man that was a stupid design for a roof. Wtf i aint buying that roof again. I know why google went with cheap glass as the back they wanted to make the phone look as nice as possible but keep it at the 300 buck entry price point. Costs had to be cut somewhere. So they used extremely cheap glass for the back and kinda skimped on memory and the camera lens quality. I get why. But would anyone of really complained if they charged 20 bucks more for it and it had a nice aluminum back? A more sturdy feel? Apple realized the design flaw and the back of the iphone is absolutely beautiful and feels amazing. And im by no means an apple fanboy. But i give credit where its due and the iphone 5 is designed great. Your right cell phones drop. Isnt it up to the maker to design a phone that can handle a small drop. Samsung comes to mind. Make fun of there plastic phones all you want but ill take my s3 without a case and you take your n4 and lets drop them 5 inches on a table. Care to take bets whose phone survives the fall without a mark on it? Didnt think so lol.

FYI, a nexus 4 can survive a drop of a few inches, or feet, just fine. And does all the time. Sometimes the glass breaks on the back, sometimes the glass breaks on the front. Broken glass after a fall is a danger on any phone. Yes, the chances of it on a phone with more glass are a little higher, that's a mathematical fact. As to just how much higher they are, there are no scientific studies to help us out.

But to act as if the Nexus 4 is literally as fragile as an egg shell and WILL break from ANY fall, is flat out false.

OK this guy puts his phone with a glass back in a bumper case and drops it. What did he think was going to happen. To say you would never buy a nexus device again because of that is stupid. Google changes the build of the phone each time they make a new nexus. Next time it could be some type of metal. How can you base one problem on the rest of the line of phones.

I never gave hatred for the phone but i dont sit here and praise it as this life changing greatest thing ever made. I give people an honest opinion of it. The nexus 4 back glass is cheap. Like it or not. It breaks very easily. It is by far the worst possible thing you can use for the back of a cell phone. No they all cant survive one fall of a few feet or inches. Some shatter ironically like an egg after just one fall of a few inches. This is a problem. Part of otters refusal to make a case for it is there not sure there case would meet there protection requirements for a phone. There afraid it would still break in there case. Now how bad is that????? I dont blindly defend things and if something is a bad design its a bad design. The nexus 4 is ok. But it has flaws. People need to know about the flaws to.

The guy in the review is being kind of crazy. It sounded like you were defending him. He brought a phone with a glass back and put a bumper on it come on. Don't cry after you drop it on its back.

Now I do agree that you should be honest with people and thank you for sharing your fears about the phone. I liked the iPhone having the glass on the back, so when I heard that the nexus 4 was going to have it I did not mind. With that said I have had it in a case from day one because I don't want to take any chances.

I keep mine in a case to. But like i said it really is a flaw in the design. Im not defending the guy but can see his frustration with it being as fragile as it is. No its not eggs but its not far from it. No phone is perfect. Samsungs screens are waaay to dim htc sense is ugly and makes there phones stutter some. Every phone has flaws its always good to read both the good and bad of each device then making a decision on if you wanna purchase it or not.

Oh sure ever phone has a flaw. I can't image though that the back of the nexus 4 is any worse than the iPhone 4 or 4s. Those were not gorilla glass either.
