We don't yet know as of now how it'll work. I suppose that's one of the reasons it's taking so long for the Nexus One to be released on VZN.

I'm thinking there might be a way to adapt your existing plan with the Google purchase process; however that can't be said about NE2. The reason for this is that in order to use NE2, you have to go through VZN's site and buy it through their NE2 page.

You don't have to go through Vzw to get your NE2, since you can do it through a Best Buy store. I would assume that the same way best buy is authorized to sell devices and honor upgrade deals, Google may be able to as well. After all, TMo does offer a subsidized price for existing customers.

In the end, only time will tell.

I could have sworn Best Buy associates had to got through the NE2 page--Best Buy's version--to accomplish it.

I worked at T-Mobile for a while and the way it worked there for Google to sell the N1 to eligible customers at a subsidized price is put them through a vendor channel just like all of the other Authorized Dealers.

This will allow them to interface with the mobile carrier to check for upgrade eligibility, agreed too price and perform a contract extension with discounted purchase.

Not rocket science, however, Verizon is like the Apple of mobile carriers. They want total control and the ability to lock their stuff down and to tell the customer what they want and then deliver it.
