Root [International] Renovate ROM for HTC One

Silly question but you do have the brand new HTC One and you have rooted the phone?

What exactly do you mean it "doesn't work"? Bootloops?

There is at least 5 out that i know of so far......i'm holding off for now.....don't really know why, maybe i'm hanging for S-Off.....i keep getting the urge to root though.

After 2 years of trying they still haven't cracked S-OFF for the GSM Wildfire S. What do you think the odds are that they'll crack the One? It could be a long wait.

I have to admit I am getting itchy feet now too. I've trawled the XDA HTC One Dev forums and there are a few ROMs on there that I like the look of, like Renovate and Android Revolution. As Earlymon said in another thread in this forum, rooting the HTC is different to rooting the Samsungs I have experience of and as the methodology is different, i'll have to read it a few times until it makes sense (it doesn't yet).

Being that i've only ever rooted Samsungs, is the HTC particularly easy to 'unroot' should the need arise please? I know there are a few people on here that frequent the XDA forums and a number of those people are also involved in dev work too. I'd ask there but XDA scares me as I am an utter noob at rooting.

I hear ya, I had rooted my Shift but that seemed way easy, I don't completely understand all the terms and what not...I really would like to root the One but I'd like to be more comfortable with all the lingo and stuff which I read a few times but still feel like a complete noob lol

I don't know about other sets, but the EVO 3D was a fairly simple procedure to re-lock, though the hboot stated it was RElocked, rather than just locked. Going S-OFF, however, would allow the bootloader to show "locked" again.

And I agree, some folks over at XDA can be, well, real jerks when you ask simple questions. That's why I consider this home for most everything except ROM specific questions.

My flash fever has been somewhat quenched, due to my bad digitizer (can't dispose of icons from the homescreen), but I don't how long the "new" of the One will last once I get it, and start getting that fever again. Biggest thing I like about custom ROMs is the options for more skins/themes, so if there's a big enough skin selection...

There is the simple guides for Rooting and installing CWM or TWRP, then other threads with people getting into bootloops and having to flash recovery via different methods. Very confusing at the moment.

I don't know if it is because of carrier branding or what.

I'll let things settle more before i do it on my One......i'm not a noob when it comes down to messing with the phone (Desire and One X were all sorted quite quickly after i took delivery of them), but i want to make sure all is good before i attempt it, i can't afford to replace a phone if i screw it up.

Oh, and for what it's worth, my ROM of choice will be Ordroid.

I've spent the day today looking at XDA and have found a 'tutorial' thread which, no matter how many times I read it, is confusing as all hell.

The thing is, rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2 was a complete doddle; so was jailbreaking my iPhone 5. The HTC root method looks to be really complicated with extracting this and moving that to there and flashing this, then booting up here and waving at this then burying in soft peat for three months and recycling as firelighters.

For instance one of the bullet points says "Select & copy the text as per step 9 on the HTCDev website." However, 'point' 9, (there is no 'step' 9 as the OP has been using 'steps' to delineate the main index rather than each individual action) says "Power your phone on by holding power and volume down". This is very confusing for a total beginner.

Like you, I can't afford to brick this phone so will leave off rooting until a clear and concise tutorial is made available with the total noob in mind.

Our of interest, what made you decide on the Ordroid ROM please? They all look much of a muchness to me so I just don't know which one to flash when I eventually take the plunge.

I thought i'd follow some of the tutorial videos on the tutorial thread I linked above. I went to the HTCdev website and thought i'd do a mock run through of the bootloader unlocking process without the phone connected just to see the various steps and to get the software on my computer in readiness. Well, I fell at the first hurdle as I can't even get the Android SDK to install. I just get a black CMD box flash up for the merest fraction of a second then nothing.

Oh well, another day methinks. I'm off to bed.

I will use OrDroid mainly because i used Shnizlon's ROM all through my One X year, i tried others but kept going back to OrDroid, stable, great battery life, great support, can't fault it TBH.

Rooting isn't the problem for me, it is pretty straight forward, although it seems to involve a lot of steps, it is fairly easy....as long as you have everything installed correctly to use Fastboot commands etc.

I might just hang it out until S-Off is achieved, or until the Recovery installation issues are ironed out properly.
