Help HTC ONE battery discussion (usage, charging, etc.)

If you're a power-heavy user, you will be disappointed. For the average normal user, it's great! Does me just fine

Interesting reading. Thanks for posting that up. Fortunately for me I am a low to moderate user and I am finding the battery life to be amazing. I'll post up a screenshot tomorrow when the battery is low.

I took the phone off charge a day and a half ago and it still has 36% battery left with 2h 40m screen on. Only one very short phone call but loads of emails and texts and a couple of short YouTube videos (maybe fifteen minutes total). I don't game on the phone at all. This is far above what I expected from this phone and really urinates all over my iPhone 5 battery life. Absolutely amazing battery life for me!

Ummmm maybe I am reading it wrong but it looks like it does incredibly well on continuous use (power users) and beats several contenders.

I agree whole-heartedly. Outside the MAXX, it rivals all the other flagships, and I don's see where you can complain a whole lot about that! Or at least I won't!

Took phone off charge 7am yesterday morning & still have 24% left! 35 hours so far, This makes my rooted S2 look pathetic.

I have had few phone calls, plenty of texts & emails. Blink feed on(which I surprisingly like, and would love with more topics), internet & loads of playing around as new phone. I am so surprised, battery life was suppose to be a negative, if it stays like this I'll be more than happy!

Not even remotely, my friend. I haven't turned off location services and I run pretty much the same apps on this as I do on the iPhone 5 and it is faster to open apps and massively faster when it comes to downloading emails (especially with attachments) and opening pictures or large files. I made sure to use the phone in the same way I used the iPhone so I could get my own personal comparison of battery life based on my normal phone use habits. I honestly didn't think it would be as good as the iPhone; I just naturally assumed the battery life would be worse. It isn't, it's way better and i'm blown away by it.

Ok, I bought a 3500MaH battery for my Evo 2 years ago, and it used to last me a little over a day on a charge, now I can't get 8 hours out of it, and it goes from 100 to 85% in the first 10 or so minutes of taking it off a charge, I expect this to happen to this battery as well. Definitely not.

These are the newer lithium polymer batteries.

Do nothing to condition them or break them in.

Calibration happens naturally.

Forcing a battery to zero charge (your phone will shut down before that) isn't the best for battery life, neither is high temperature operation.

Just use it and don't care.

Wow, I'm impressed with the numbers you guys are posting. I'm using a RAZR M currently, and I thought that had good battery life. This alleviates my main concern of the HTC ONE. Now only if Verizon will let the HTC ONE be on it's network unmolested.

I want this phone more and more now, but I really should wait to see what Motorola comes up with this year.

Being that you've all been so nice, here's another one.

In flagrant disregard for my earlier post, I didn't charge my phone before I went out and decided to take my phone juice pack with me and see how long the phone went without charging instead. I was on wifi most of the day but I still didn't have power saver on. THREE DAYS! This is unheard of for me. Absolutely unheard of.

This is great information . I am new to android and sealed batteries. What happens when the battery wears down and no longer takes a charge? I have read that the iPhone battery which is non removable can be replaced by the user fairly easily. Will it be the same for the One or does the phone need to be brought in for service? Unless you severely abuse your battery, or you get a defective one, you will not need to replace it. With battery tech today, these batteries are outlasting the phones, especially if not abused.
My wife's OG Droid is still running it's OG battery quite well. While I'm sure it doesn't get quite the same life it did when it was new, it is still quite good for its age.
All this being said, you would likely need to send it in or have a pro do the replacing if it did get to that point. The One will be a tough nut to crack without actually doing damage. Just look at the tight design and aluminum build.

Well, AT&T shipped mine on so it was dead when I got it.
It took quite a bit of time to charge.
Once charged it seems to be lasting me >= 12 hours with moderate/heavy use.

Mine dies pretty fast with low usage. Played a game for about 30 minutes and the battery drained 20% and about 20% overnight. I'm quickly regretting this buy solely on battery life. How long do you think you had yours charging?

Yeah I feel really bad about that, everyone is having decent battery life and it seems as if I'm stuck in the back ranting. If it weren't for the battery life and the weather app (not that big of a deal) I'd have fallen in love with this phone. Do you think I should overcharge the phone a bit or just give it a few more cycles?

And I don't know if I can return it, I don't think it falls under the warranty and HTC would probably blame me anyways. Thank you for the warm welcome.

If it's your first day and first charge, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in the battery stats, the battery is new, nothing's had a chance to calibrate.

GSAM Battery Monitor, free, can help show what's really eating power. If you're going in and out of service in areas where you expect a stable signal, definitely take it back. Nothing eats power like a bad signal situation.

If it's not that and it doesn't improve after a day or two, then looking at a replacement makes more sense.

Meanwhile, GSAM can help see if you have some app or setup going nuts.

I've had that with Google sync on a new phone (brand doesn't matter, can hit anyone). If you see the two circular arrows chasing each other at the top (sync icon) not going away, then settings, Accounts and sync, turn off auto sync, cycle power on the phone, then turn sync back on. That power-killer is a Google sync error.

I had it charging for 4 maybe 5 hours.
There is another factor .. something called... ICantKeepMyHandOffThisCoolPhone

Are you using it on LTE?
What's your signal reporting in about -> network?

If you look in battery history... the line that says "mobile network signal"
is that indicating a low signal?
Green is good... red is bad.
What does yours look like?

To add to the suggestions mentioned above,call your carrier to ensure that there aren't network/tower issues which could be affecting your connectivity.

On the return policy,if you continue to experience charging/battery life issues,this is a legitimate claim for warranty service.

Thank you for the replies. I live in NYC so signal isn't a problem in a big city like this, it is a pretty straight dark green line with only slight points where it goes light green and usually on 4G LTE. AT&T treats me good there. Well my phone lost 4% battery while I took an (accidental) 3 hour nap, I don't know if this is normal and I had GSam running. By the way this is my first android phone so maybe the iPhone spoiled me with battery life.
