Ok im taking a punt here and buying a Mugen 1600mah extended battery for my desire.

The battery i've gone for is the Mugen 1600mah for the nexus one. As far as i can tell the nexus and the desire share the same BB99100 1400mah battery so it should fit fine.

Mugen are a quality brand and my old extended Hero battery made all the difference.

As soon as i get it i will update you all with the progress and battery life extention times.:)

If its good I'll definitely be buying one. it doesn't need a new battery cover?

No the 1600mah doesnt need a cover. Same size as the standard battery (similar to my old Mugen Hero extended battery)

There are larger batterys for the nexus one that need a new cover.....the battery would fit in the Desire however the cover would not fit (as its a differnt phone)....
- So in effect there is no larger battery with cover (yet) for the Desire
- Although would you want to make the phone upto 6mm thicker? I wouldnt.

See the sticky at the top of this page.

From an email Mugen engineers sent to BatteryBoss:

Actually, most of the batteries are divided into two portions. One is useable capacity and the other is non-useable capacity. Generally, useable part is 60-65% and non- useable part is*40-35% (35-40%). [...] MP has over 10 years experience on technical design & skill leads Mugen Power (MP) enhance battery performance better than the others. It is because the useable capacity of ours was up to 80-85%

80-85% usable capacity of a 1600mAh battery puts it in the region of 1300-1350mAh

The 1400 mAh battery that came with your phone has a usable capacity of about 95%, or roughly 1350mAh

You will not get longer battery life out of a mugen 1600mAh battery. End of story.

Same with Seidio 1600mAh batteries.

Do not waste your money on them!

You may want to consider buying a standard desire replacement battery such as HTC BA S410 Desire Battery

I did so, and the replacement lasts me 18-20 hours compared to 10-12 hours with the one that came with the phone.

The original one has had a few weeks to "settle in" and there was no improvement in its performance. The new one however lasted longer from the very first time I used it.

See this thread http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/81842-battery-performance-variation.html

There is clearly a huge variation in the performance of the batteries shipped with the desire, as shown by the large number of people on this forum getting less than 10 hours, and an equal number getting double that.

Just thought Id share with you that I took delivery today of my HTC Desire 2600mah battery and larger rear cover today. I ordered it Thursday from oddsandpods here in the UK after ordering it Thursday evening. Heres the link: Odds And Pods-HTC Desire Extended 2600mAh Battery and Replacement Back Cover

I had their HTC Hero version last year and it served me well so I thought Id try them again. Its on charge tonight then I'll be using it tomorrow.

I have a Desire HD, so are we saying that:

1. If we buy another standard original battery for the device, that will be better than the one supplied with the phone?

2. There is no point in spending money on buying these extended life batteries as they won't double or better the last time?

This is an interesting debate, and I would be keen to learn any levels of truth in what we are saying with backup?
