How To Navigation Icon

I would like to have a navigation icon on my home page. I don't like having to go to car home and then navigation. Of course I am using it when I'm driving, so simpler and bigger is better. Is there a way to install an icon or shortcut that will directly bring up navigation?

Try using Car Dock v2. It puts 6 LARGE icons of your choice on each of 3 screens. I have a direct dial to my wife, direct nav to home, Slacker, and the maps app. Excellent product! Here is the code:

If you have CarDock installed, there is a Google Navigation shortcut available to be placed directly on your home screen as well.

I still personally like doing the "Navigate to...." under the voice search, but it is still nice to have the option available when you want to enter in an address of your destination.

I think the only "charge" is the fact that you're using data (and thus, your data plan) for downloading the maps. GPS reception is free, since the satellites are constantly broadcasting information whether you (or your phone) is listening or not.

MapDroyd lets you download maps into your device so you can use it without using data. But I don't believe you can "navigate" in MapDroyd -- it only shows your location on an internal map.

The maps you download are for use with mapdroyd only. Google maps doesn't store anything, hence the need for a signal. The benefit of mapdroyd is knowing your location when you are in an area poor or zero signal.

Correction: the latest version of this kick-butt app lets you have 5 screens!

I sometimes (OK, most times) forget to turn BT (or GPS) on before docking and then have to go to home, turn BT on then back to Car Dock. I don't see a way to add the power widget though...or am I missing something very obvious?

You can add a shortcut for either one. Shortcut-Settings-Bluetooth Settings (or Location & Security Settings for GPS). I haven't figured out how to add a widget, except for on screen saver widget.

CarDock v.2 now supports widgets! I just got the update, and you are able to put it 1x1 widgets...FINALLY!
