Help - Gestures and finger hover don't work

I have the same issue.

I figured out that gestures will only work with some of the native apps but air view is a mystery unless my phone is defective or something. Try putting your phone down (it must be still) and wave your hand over the sensors (closer than 3 inches) on the top right of the phone... it's totally awesome!

Air gestures are useless on mine...the only ones that work seem to be when I hover a finger over the dial pad to see who the contact is on speed dial, and on the default browser for magnification. The others don't work at all...the motions for screenshot, picture/song advancing, and even auto scrolling don't work.

These are all pretty uselss but I paid for them :p...hmm...I wonder if I should exchange it?

These features based upon sensitivity can sometimes require tweaking and updating by the manufacturer to iron out problems.

When I first got my S3, the Smart Stay feature worked only intermittently, and I found myself staring at the screen with bulging eyes trying to keep the screen from timing out. Then the first software upgrade improved it and the feature worked perfectly from that moment onwards.

It can be a matter of needing to adjust the tolerances for variations in user gestures to make sure it works in nearly all cases easily.

The palm-swipe to take a screenshot still demands a bit of skill... ;)

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised last night with the air gestures. I was sitting in the hallway outside my 3yo daughters bedroom waiting for her to fall asleep (at least enough so she doesn't sneak out of bed!). I popped my phone out and was looking through some gallery pics. I was actually just looking at one pic and mistakenly swiped my hand across the screen without touching it. It went to the next pic. Then I started trying to do it... Worked perfect! It was pretty dark too. Very impressive!
Tried it again this morning with full light, works great!
I'm digging the hover for the dialer too. That works great, although from what I can tell, it's not faster than just holding the number for the call. I think it's mostly intended to be used as a "reminder" for the speed dialer.

The only one I had problems with was the screen shot hand swipe.

Otherwise, as one of the other posters mentioned, many of the gestures are only for samsung & a few google apps.

Airview seems to work for my email app, Gallery (hovering over an album will bring up several shots from that album, and hovering over a single picture will make it a little bigger), and samsung browser (magnifying text where your finger is).

Smart Pause seems to only work for Youtube (not Netflix or Hulu)

I can't seem to get the air gesture to answer the phone to work. I tried several times and it never answers the phone call.

Other gesture functions work ok and I do have the phone answer option enabled.

Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

Go into settings and touch the gestures on/off piece to enter the sub-menu. You have to turn on that particular gesture.

I'm having same issue. Turned on all the options, still not working. Even the tutorial didn't work

I have a weird issue. If I have the hover gesture thing on and go into my list of text messages, it will work on some of the texts and not others.. Ive I hover my finger from the top of the screen going down slowly, I see that some of the threads will hover and others wont.. any idea?

If the text you're hovering over fits into the line it won't hover or magnify as you can already see all of the text. If the text is too big to see on the line you're hovering over then it'll magnify it so you can see the whole text.
