Ok, I am going to Root my phone..

I have 1.5 and I really want the 2.1 update and all the abilities that come with rooting your phone.

I know a lot about the Eris but i don't understand Rooting it and what the differences of ROM's are or what they even do.

I have read the tutorial many times so i know HOW to install it, im just wondering if you guys could give me some hints, warn me what NOT to do so i don't brick my phone, and what are ROM's exactly and what are the differences from each custom ROM?

Thank you very much

The differences between roms right now is just how they look , nothing to big, some come with different apps and stuff but nothing that will make a huge difference.
I would say its like 99% impossible to brick your phone, I myself haven't heard of anyone bricking their phone while doing to rooting process.

Ok so i am going to go with Sense- Able and then going to install Helix on it..

Another quick question, how can i back up all my apps?
Is it the same way as the 2.1 leak that i can find on the other eris board?

well once you get rooted the easiest way to back up is to either use Titanium which is in the market, or over on the XDA boards Eclips3 has an app that will do the whole process for you
