Help Mediaserver - SUCKS PHONE DRY ON IDLE!

Understated

I've read through the other threads, non of which are relevant.

I purchased a new Galaxy S4 and truely do not use it for ANYTHING!

The only apps I have downloaded are M8 and Navfree satnav software. Also XE currency converter and Skype.

NOTHING ELSE!

YET MEDIASERVER USES UP 73% OF MY BATTERY ON THE BATTERY METRE!!! AND IT SUCKS IT DRY WITHIN 6-7 HOURS OF IDLE! The screen only uses 5% so you do the math! I barely use the phone!

People keep saying its something to do with music or video? I DO NOT DO EITHER AND NEVER HAVE!

GOD this thing has driven my nuts the last 4 days. I needed to use my phone and it died on my at the worst possible time the other day.

Now I keep the phone plugged in everytime I'm at home or in the car, just to keep the charge up.

Can someone please tell me how to stop what ever this is? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!

mediaserver comes up quite a bit with new phones, and I've fallen for the hype, too.

Go into accounts, your gmail account, click your email address, and look at all the sync options. Turn off things like g pictures, picasa, and others.

Charge to 100%, reboot. then start fussing over the screen taking most of the battery.

I have no idea why they made this the default! I stumbled upon this while doing factory resets on my Note 2, and it's worked every time. :D

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I do have gmail inbox on my phone that is the only other thing I keep logged into.

So that means Gmail is what Mediaserver is? What is it 'exactly' ...

No, MS is generic, part of it can be syncing services that are failing or trying to pull down large amounts of data or polling to see if you are on wifi.

Worth a shot, it solved my problem, but it might be different for you.

Hi, well mediaserver is back and the only way I can get rid of it is by restarting the phone only for it to come back within a few hours.

For example, I charged up my phone fully last night and took it off charge at midnight. Then when I woke up at 7 in the morning it was half dead again @ 47%. I turned off the wifi/gps/data and it still managed to suck half the phone dry!

Any other suggestions?
