Galaxy S3 coming in June

This is kind of lame.... VM doesn't have a single new phone on their site in months, and now we're getting all excited because we might be getting a premium phone...
The rest of the world has had for what, over a year?

I'm with you... but OTOH if it's white it just reminds you how much grime is on your black phone you don't notice.

That's why hospitals traditionally have almost everything possible, white. Hard to ignore germs and dirt.

Ting plans are decent if you don't plan on using any data. Their phones are more expensive than VM also; $193 for the LG Optimus Elite? VM had it for $150 the day it came out, you can get it at radio shack for $60 today. The Victory is more expensive too, VM has it on sale right now for $187. I'd bet when the S3 is priced it's cheaper too.

I wouldn't want to be stuck on a plan with such a limited amount of data if i had a Note or S3. If I was going to change plans I'd switch to a GSM carrier. At least then I would have more options in choosing a plan without being stuck paying whatever the carrier decided to charge for the phone I want.

The S3 is a big step up from an Iphone 4 though and quite a bit newer, one can hope though! I'm still hating the white, it just looks kind of extra plasticy. They have the S2 in black now so hopefully VM will follow suit with the S3,

Yeah, they obviously won't get it rolled out that quickly but I believe they are ramping up after the purchase from that Japanese telo.

Not sure what you mean by "any" data? A friend of mine who is a bonehead has her data chopped by VM halfway into her service month every cycle. I don't. If you require truly "unlimited" data that's great but that doesn't cover every user.

Agreed, I did notice in the entry level and old model phones VM is cheaper, perhaps I should have clarified the intent of my reply was toward those seeking premium phones.

You could have had an S3 on Ting last year is the point. "I'd bet" that by the end of the summer you can get an S3 on Ting for chump change.

I'm not sure where you're coming from there. Pretty sure there is virtually no limits to data usage on Ting if you are willing to pay for it. The beauty of it is that you only pay for what YOU use, so if you want to be a data hog I'm not subsidizing it with a plan sold to the both of us as "unlimited". Never mind Ting like Virgin is a NO CONTRACT carrier so what do you mean by "stuck"?

Fair enough, I was suggesting Ting merely as an alternative to VM, not comparing apples to oranges. However I don't think any GSM carrier offers a rate/phone combination any cheaper than Ting on the top shelf phones. And for instance with T-mobile most of your arguments against Ting also apply. Their phones are expensive. Their plans cost more and throttle data usage. So I think each person should weigh their needs and make their own decision.

You can buy the following today on Ting:

Galaxy S3
Galaxy S4
HTC One
Galaxy Note II

You cannot buy any of those today on Virgin Mobile.

In a month VM will throw us the bone of giving us the oldest of the above at a price we can only speculate upon. And you can't take the phone to any other carrier. Aren't we lucky.

To be sure I am happy today still with my Triumph at $25 a month. Even though using it requires powering down and swapping batteries twice a day and many apps are now ignoring Froyo. It still runs fine. When it's time for new hardware and I want something impressive, VM will not be my first choice.

All those phones are available on T-mobile. Sure, you're going to pay for them, but for $70 a month and unlimited EVERYTHING, including 4g data, I'd go with them.

Yeah. For someone like me who doesn't have 4g data in his area and never uses more than 300 minutes of calling per month, $35 works. I have no need to double my cost for services I don't even need.

By the way, once WiMax is phased out, will phones that ran on it only be able to get 3g? Or could they be adapted to get LTE? I don't think I'll ever have access to 4g, but it would I be nice to have for those rare times when I do have access.

When 4G dies, wimax will only have 3G, to get 4G after that you'll need a LTE device not wimax; most modern phones will be LTE capable by then.

who cares? Samsung phones are plastic junk. Htc makes much better phones, but the herd mentality means the apple and samsung marketing can buy clever ads to peddle junk. Just like automakers from detroit used to do before public smartened up.

The s4 destroys the HTC one in power and camera quality except in low light situations. Maybe destroys isn't the best word but it does have the advantage.

There has not been any further details released since it was first announced. Since June was given as the release date, I would guess we'll hear the specifics within the next couple of weeks.

You just have to ask yourself if the build quality makes up for where the s4 out shines it.

Radio shack also has the S2 on VM for $199.99. Unless VM can blow me away with a lower price than Boost on the S3, I'll just save some cash and buy the S2. I don't have access to 4g anyway, and the specs of the S3 aren't significantly better than the S2 (to me) or at least enough to make me pay $229 more for it.
