Verizon Incredible Pre-order Warning

Indiana
I called and spoke with two different CSR on the phone today as well as one the guys at our local Verizon corporate store. I am still undecided about whether to pre-order tomorrow to save myself from dealing with the mail-in rebate or buying it in store on 4/29. The first CSR I spoke with told me I should receive the phone by FedEx on 4/29. I called later to ask another question about my ne2 and changing plans. I asked the second CSR the same "when will I get it if I pre-order" question and she says I will get it on Friday 4/30. I told her that every thing I have heard and read says it will be there by Thursday 4/29. She told me it was going to be shipped using FedEx 2-day service. I called my local store in Indiana to see if they have ever sold out of any phones when they debut. He says that most of the excitement over the Incredible is by "techies" like me and he expects plenty in stock. I had him check to see when I would get it if I pre-ordered online. He says that it would be shipped 2-day FedEx and I would receive it on Friday 4/30. I told him I would be in on 4/29 to get my phone because I do not want to take a chance on waiting an extra day. This is just a FYI for those expecting it on Thursday because it may take an extra day to get to you.

That's what I thought too. The Motorola Droid was such a hyped phone and the sales guy said they never came close to selling out. I think the only benefit to pre-ordering is maybe getting the device early, but it sounds like the opposite may be true. I agree about using the word "techie" and Treo in the same sentence is just not right. :D

On the preorder website on Verizon it says:

Pre-orders placed online before 4pm local time on 4/28 will be delivered 4/29.

Enter your location

It sounds like there are two delivery options from other posters. Maybe that's why I was getting both dates of 4/29 and 4/30. If you do the free 2-day delivery, you get it on 4/30. If you pay the $8 next day delivery, you get it on 4/29. Just speculation, but that would explain things.

There is no way of knowing this far ahead what store's stock levels will be. VZW stores don't usually know what they're receiving until a day or two before they receive it.

Two examples of VZW phones that have been sold out in stores on launch day, and for several weeks thereafter: Blackberry Storm, LG Voyager.

If you can be home to sign for it, or are comfortable leaving a signed request for FedEx to leave it at your door, pre-order it just so you don't have to deal with the store... Otherwise, walk in and get the silly thing.

I just feel victim to the 2 day shipping. When I called to ask Verizon to switch the shipping to overnight as stated on their website they satated that the order wa sin processing and no changes could be made. I even pointed out the fact that it was a preorder but they said they could do nothing about the shipping.

I then asked them to cancel the order so I could try it again online. Verizon said that I can't cancel the order because it is "processing". Just doesn;t make any sense and kind of pisses me off.

Pre-order placed and it says "Will overnight to deliver the 29th". Personally I would not take my chances getting it locally.

Personally, I'm not going to take my chances getting it online :p

There's about 12 places that should have then with 1/2 hour of me. So I'm going to start at the one that opens the earliest:) I can also call and go around a day or two before, to verify stock levels and gauge how many inquiries they've gotten.

Plus I've had terrible luck with getting stuff delivered in past... :(

I would call back later today or tomorrow, you might have better luck. Usually I have found online orders through various companies to be in "process" during non business hours. Nothing can ship for a few days anyway so if you call back tomorrow, it still didn't ship and should be able to be changed. and if by some miracle it did ship, then your ahead of the game right.

Also try to move up the chain to a manager and see if there is anything they can do to help.

Good Luck

When ordering online make sure you enter this promo code at checkout: freeovernt

It was working as of 9:35am Eastern on 04/19/2010. When you get to checkout it selects 2nd Day by default, but it'll automatically switch to overnight after entering the code. This is a normal code advertised on Verizon's website but for some reason the pre-order doesn't pick it up by default.
Really can't wait to get off this LG Dare so I can have a smartphone rather then a cell phone that thought it wanted to be a smartphone but couldn't quite let go.

Don't really know what you guys are seeing as I don't get any options for shipping. It says FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING all over the site AND when I go to checkout, it's there too. I have no other options showing for 1 day or 2 day??? Odd. Maybe it's based on where you live???

Did you log in directly to verizonwireless.com or clicking the link from HTC Incredible? ? I used the phones. link and when I got to checkout it showed two shipping options with 2nd day as the default. Regardless, if you use that code I posted it'll flip it to free overnight.
