What is everyone currently running in terms of ROMs and Kernels? I'm new to the One, but just rooted this beast and i'm currently running the stock ROM, looking to flash around a bit but unsure what ROMs and Kernels are fully functional. Anyone have a setup other than stock? If so, fill me in!!

I'm running.....

I like the Rom.. has a few quirks but it's been good so far

Nice!! I've used AR before on my 3vo, pretty solid ROM. What issues if any are you having with the ROM? The problem i'm running into is that it seems ROMS, kernels, and development seem to be scattered everywhere, a bit here, a bit on xda, and randomly located ones so i'm having a tough time weighing my options (flash 'em all!). I just flashed the latest CleanROM this morning, been working excellent with everything i've noticed so far. About to flash the bulletproof kernel I found over on xda, has a few features i'd like to take for a test spin.

On another note, what does everyone use for kernel settings? I.E. Kernel Tuner, SetCPU... ?

The issue I have seems to be with locale settings.
It has to be set to UK English for location stuff to work, etc.
I have no idea why it's just nuts... but I don't mind it and it's not a deal breaker.
Some little turn based games convert dollars into pounds but whatever.

I don't do kernel tweaks myself... I just use whatever the rom developer puts in.

The phone rom developer crowd has become elitist and some even morally corrupt.
I have been writing software since the dawn of computing time and released a lot of stuff over the last 20 years under the GPL and I have seen this shift into companies and individuals taking code and slapping a price on it.

I typed up some long thing but decided it was best to put it plainly.
There are good rom cookers out there, and there are even more GPL infringers to go along with them.
This is why XDA has scattered a lot of them to the wind.
They make some change or get some feature working and according to the license they have to share that code if they are going to distribute it.
So they cook up their own pay/referral only websites, call it an "organization" then push binaries and ban anyone that asks for the source.

XDA requires they follow the rules, but a lot of them do not want to follow those rules.
If you run into someone not following the rules the best thing you can do for the greater community is shun them, no matter how much you like their rom or kernel.

That said... I tend to pick my roms carefully.
If I find out a rom cook or kernel developer is a GPL violator I will never use anything they have to offer. It's just not good for the community to have copyright infringers amongst us.

Disclaimer: I am a full time software developer that writes both closed source and has contributed to several open source projects... my copyright views are my own.

Thanks for that insight, it's greatly appreciated. It's unfortunate that something that thrived so much on community has turned so elitist, but as I've been digging around for things for this phone I've noticed it as well. Oh well, to each their own I suppose.

As for locale issues with that ROM, I know I've seen a mod somewhere that allows you to edit your locale,I'll have to try and dig up a link, unless of course that's something you've tried already.

Like I said, there are good rom cooks out there and those people are unfortunately shadowed by the bad apples which a lot of times turn out to be 16 year old kids.

That said... I might try OrDroid and renovate looks kinda cool.
You can't look in the AT&T section because it's dead..
You have to look at the international based roms that also work but from my experience have some locale issues that I bet can be resolved without too much trouble.

I Switched from CleanRom 2.5 to ARHD 10.1 this week
I also flashed the new Radio and So far it's been outstanding.
The issue I have seems to be with locale settings.

I don't have the location issue you described so not sure what it is.

Few tips if you planning on switching to 4.2.2
Backup your entire Sdcard to you PC first
then in recovery format your sdcard /factory wipe / cache wipe
reboot recovery
then adb push rom.zip /data/media
then install the rom
first boot will take 3-5 min be patient
then move stuff from your PC back to Sdcard (excluding the Android folder).
That's the safest way to a true clean install I have seen.
4.1.2 to 4.2.2 is a major Update ..do it right

If you decide to flash the radio too make sure to backup your current one first. From recovery do:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p31 of=/sdcard/radio_firmware.img

You now have current Radio on your SD as radio_firmware.img

In case you want to restore your current Radio backup:

just do it via adb in recovery:

dd if=/sdcard/radio_firmware.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p31

save you some searching here's the 4A.16.3250.24 radio update:

The android directory are for app temp storage.
They have nothing to do with the OS itself.

The android_secure folder which does not exist on the One was for move to sd card capability.

Deleting these when changing roms is a good idea when changing roms but the only thing that will possibly be affected is an app that stored data there.

Nothing of real importance is stored on the virtual SD card.

Are you kidding ? all your pictures / music /movies/zoe's/documents/screenshots / ringtones/downloads everything is stored on the Sdcard.
4.2.2 relocates the sdcard to /data/media/0
your PC Still looks under /data/media and see's nothing.
if you don't backup to your pc first you have to manually move all that stuff from some file manager on your phone to see it on your PC after the rom update.
Not my idea of fun.

this pretty much sums up your options

Thank you so much for that! It would have taken me forever to find this info on my own!

I'm assuming since your profile info says you're on at&t flashing this radio hasn't affected anything in terms of service? Still trying to learn my way around this device, first GSM phone i've owned as well.

Yes I'm on AT&T in south central Florida ...they just rolled out LTE here in March. My iPhone 4s was not LTE Ready was one of the reasons I upgraded to the One.
The new radio I listed seems to be hit or miss for some people. On my phone the data speed didn't change much, but the bluetooth and wifi seem stronger.
I have read some complaints on the proximity sensor timing being off on 4.2.2, but I have not noticed it myself.

I think i'm just going to spend a day flashing around to find the ROM I like the most. CleanROM has been good for me, going to try TrickDroid and ARHD out tonight possibly with some different kernel combinations. Coming from the 3vo it was nice that development was neatly organized in one thread, but I believe i've found a forum on XDA that contains current development (albeit for the international versions).

Soooo, another quick question, since the international versions are GSM I can assume (unless otherwise stated) that most ROMS and kernels on this forum will work on my AT&T version?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2119

Sorry for the noob questions, figured better to ask here than have someone lose sleep because of a question I asked on XDA :D.

Yeah but you kind of made it sound like backing up the sdcard was not totally necessary because nothing useful was their. That would be a big mistake to a Noob. But yes the OS would function without the sd at all, which is why I formatted mine and just moved back what I wanted.
