These will be the best phones (for how long, no one knows) by the time this summer rolls around, so if you're breaking your contract or something similarly crazy as that, read this. This is just a fraction of the research you need to do before you make a decision like that.

I've decided to make the jump to the incredible. The 2 biggest features for me is the fm radio and the 512mb internal storage for apps. I'm running out of space on the eris for all the apps i've bought and don't really want to uninstall and reinstall them to save space. I just find myself holding back on apps i'd really like to use based on the internal storage space.

The fm radio would be nice around here as i like to listen to cubs games and we are located about 3 miles from the local radio station that broadcasts the cubs games around here.

The slightly larger screen would be nice for google navigation. I had no idea how well google navigation worked until this last week when i put it through its paces. We used it to get to wrigley field and back home and i used it last night to get to the casino in the quad cities.

The oled screen would also be welcomed and of course the quicker processor is nice as well. The oled screen and processor aren't deal breakers, but one thing that helped push me twords the newer phone is the 2.1 os and the availability of the apps i've purchased.

Of course i'll be rooting it asap to gain those additional featured but for a couple months i can live with it as is. The biggest concern i have right now is the case and screen protector. As i'll be getting the phone in the begining of its life span those accessories won't yet be available. But as soon as they come out i'm all over it.

Anyhow my wife is keeping her eris, i just need to talk her into letting me root it for her. I'll probably wait a couple weeks to see if the OTA update ever comes out for it, she could use the navigation feature but her mini van has one built in so its not a big deal.

But with that being said i just couldn't pass up the offer to upgrade and keep my new every 2 discount and get the newer phone. The only drawback is i'll be without an android phone for about 10 days as i need to send my eris back today in order to qualify for the upgrade. I'll be spending another $185 on the new phone right off the bat but having a newer phone in the beginning of its life is important to be going forward.

I don't plan on leaving the android platform anytime soon, and this ensures that i'll have a better experience overall with what it has to offer.

Everything I have seen on the EVO makes it look very impressive. I don't know if I could deal with the size though. I look forward to the future 4G phones and what they will be capable of.

It's sad. As an adult I don't know the geography of Illinois, where I've stayed for fourteen years of my life. I probably know the state of Alabama better though I've been there for three.

FM should be standard on phones from here on out. It's a really neat feature, but my CD player had it ten years ago, why not my phone? Forget the iPod missing out on it and the Zune picking it up. Clearly, people like it and use it. Who uses their alarm clock radios for listening anyways?

I paid $200 for it just a year ago and now they want to keep screwing me $100 a year for map updates, no thanks. Its going up on ebay this afternoon. I'll let someone else deal with that hassle.

Unless you're against paying for map upgrades in general, you can find these updates for your TomTom online for free. If you don't want your TomTom, fine, sell it. But if you're selling it because the company is trying to screw you out of money, you can still keep it and get the updates for free.

Yeah but i'm not going to go down that road. I pay for what i use, unless of course there is a free alternative thats much better. Which in this case google navigation is much better and is free. I don't want to get in trouble for downloading tomtom maps online as i'm sure they rely on that as their main source of revenue. Instead what i would like to do is not support them in general and move on. I can take 1 more hardware sale away from them and if the person who buys it wishes to download maps online then thats on them. Regardless its one less sale for them.

In related news, I saw the unboxing of the Incredible and it booting up and all. No lag and the person demonstrating it especially took note of it. Wonder if it's like a computer, though, and starts to lag over time inevitably. I dunno. We'll see in two months.

The Good: The phone has an 8mp camera, 8gb internal storage, 3.7 inch screen, New Sense UI, Android 2.1, 1GHz processor, and looks great.
The Bad: Not much. No HDMI out, no HD video, wish it had physical buttons rather than touch sensitive.

These tests mean nothing. Like those Car and Driver tests comparing four cars and rating them on stupid stuff like "fun to drive." Which is something subjective.

What matters the most is the long-term review they do on cars, totaling up maintenance costs and performance issues. A few have come out for the Nexus One since late-March and continue to come in with people's gripes over long-term usage.

That's what I'm interested in.

Just read up on the Samsung Galaxy S. Next big thing for this Summer. 2.1, Snapdragon. Still...does not want.

If I keep switching phones like this, I'll just have even worse commitment issues later on.

Nexus Two should be out no later than next summer, a year from now. It seems like a long ways away, and it is, but with a two-year lock with the contract, it will fall a few months after its supposed release. Which is good, because I'm all for the guinea pig, early-adopters to find the flaws and help me make my decision.

As stated earlier the main reason for me is the storage space for apps, if it weren't for that i would still have my eris. But because i filled it up within a week of getting it i feel that an upgrade is needed if i am going to keep it the full 2 years of my contract. Its either upgrade now or regret it later imo. I'd rather just get it done and over with and then sit on it for 2 years until something better comes out.

I know its obsolete even before it hits the shelves, that doesn't bother me. But filling up the storage space within the first week does. If google was working on a apps2sd solution then i'd wait but with no word on their status or even if they are really working on it, i have no choice but to move to a phone with 3x the storage.

My wife is keeping her eris, shes more than happy with it and in her situation i would be too. But i thought there wasn't much available for the android market before buying my eris so i didn't even think about the space on the phone for storing apps. Since playing with my eris i've learned there are tons of useful apps available, and after purchasing a good number of apps i found myself passing on other apps because of the space limitation. Thats something i can't live with, expecially when my ipod touch has 32gb worth of storage space available for apps. I have roughly 1.2gb worth of apps on it now and thats after only a year, just think how much i'd have after 2 years!

I'm in no rush but I do like the Incredible, or at least I like the stats so far since I haven't seen it in person. I'm just wondering if it would be better to wait for LTE before buying another phone. I will also buy the next one without a contract.

Apparently, FM radio is standard on all Nokia phones. Even my father's old Nokia cheapo flip phone had it. Same with my Nokia E63 smartphone. That's one thing I miss from my old phone which I lost with the Eris, was FM radio. But I suppose having Pandora access anywhere sort of makes up for it.

Yeah see that's what I was thinking, too. I like my Eris so I don't really have a problem keeping it for another 15 months for my next NE2 upgrade, though I really don't want a contract anymore.

I don't listen to the radio for music, its for baseball games only For music i have plenty of itunes music downloaded and pandora and droid lite works fantastic as well. For music i'd never dream of listening to fm radio, thats like flashing back to 1980
