OR...IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THAT PHONE?:thinking::thinking::thinking:

The Precedent is a low end smartphone running Android Froyo (stock). Expect it to occasionally freeze requiring a battery pull, like a BlackBerry phone. It only had 256mb of RAM so it doesn't take long before apps fight for space in memory causing the black screen of lag doom often followed by "sorry! The application Play Store is not responding"

Check out my root and rom method for cm 7.1 on androidarea51.com

Its noob proof, I wrote it for people who this is their first time doing anything. 512mb to 4gb app space, less lag, vm heap to help ram. Its stable I ran it for a year without a reflash needed.

i got mine as fast and fluid as an iPhone. i use ROM Toolbox Pro, a root only app but it works well. managed to change the minfree, VM Heap, tweak autostarts, etc and now it runs perfectly well. however unless the OP wants to root and take risks, this won't help his/her issue sadly. i had the same issues out of box as the OP though. out of box, it has very little internal storage, very little RAM, and too many apps = lag and crashing/ANRs

PrepaidGuy, do you know any way to disable the annoying 'no signal' alert? every Area51 ROM has it enabled and i cannot locate the sound anywhere. it's not in /media/audio at all. logcat seems to point to some 'DMApp' and 'DefaultPhoneNotifier' whenever it goes off. i also tried to post a thread about it in Android Area51 but there must be some limit on how long a post from a new member can be as it only posted two sentences instead of the entire post.

No idea

Only suggestion I can make is start looking inside apk files.

There is an apk decompiler recompiler built into windows right click menu app install on xda somewhere.

Use that.

Thats also how u can change backgrounds in wallpaper apk
[Copy and paste over in file in photoshop don't just replace files]

Decompilers seem to require Sun Java which for some reason fails to properly install in Windows 8, or it installs but doesn't seem to be found by the Android SDK. I can, however assure you that the no signal tone is NOT an apk, or part of phone.apk. its a tone buried somewhere and hidden--its not in the /media/audio folders which was the first place I looked. The service calling the tone is known as "Dmapp DefaultPhoneNotifier"
