Dumb question but why the excitement for the S3? Is it so much better than the Evo?
4g is fine and all but they crippled the EVO when they introduced the 2.5gb cap. Makes 4g pretty much useless as you need unlimited to get the benefits of 4g - steaming audio, movies, etc.
So though the S3 is a 4g phone, VM wont allow you to really enjoy the feature so why not just stay with the EVO?
Id probably be more tempted to try the VM iPhone 4S 16gb for the same price. Ive never owned an iPhone and at least if would be something different to play around with.
Thanks all.
From my day and a half with the S3 activated, I am already loving it. Everything is just faster.
The Evo wasn't bad, but I notice the difference, even with opening menus, or apps, scrolling, anything. The screen is bigger and sharper, the colors look better. The camera is better. I hated the camera on my Evo V, it took a lot of blurry pictures, and took too long to focus and take the picture. On the S3, you touch the shutter button and SNAP and BAM picture is taken and done with.
The phone weighs less. I like how it looks and feels. The battery lasts much longer than my Evo's, and I haven't even installed JuiceDefender or anything like that yet. That + an extended battery should be amazing (compared to what I have been used to from previous phones).
Even without 4G, I've noticed a boost in 3G speed. My web speed was criminally slow with my Evo, and now everything is much faster. I changed the settings to CDMA mode instead of LTE / CDMA, to try it out as well as limit battery drain, and the speed has been fine. On my Evo, YouTube videos took ages to load, with frequent pauses, and now they load quickly, no pauses at all.
If I enable LTE, I pick it up in buildings, where I couldn't connect to WiMax at all. A lot of this will depend on your location, but all around, the S3 offers noticeable improvements in all areas.
The one thing I have noticed with the S3 so far is that once in a while my bars will go down to zero and my texts won't go through until it comes back.
I still like my Evo V, and I don't think it's completely necessary for everyone to upgrade if they need justification for spending that money. The Evo is fine. I was getting tired of a few bugs I still had with mine in particular. But if you have the opportunity to upgrade to the S3, you probably won't regret it either.
