Just posted this over in the Android Themes subforum, but didn't know if many of you checked that section out so I thought I'd post it here too in case anyone misses it.

Mods, if you feel that one of these is unnecessary and/or in the wrong section, please feel free to (re)move it. Just wanted to make sure that people who might be interested didn't miss out on this :p

ANYWAY... I just compiled an HTC themed swype. I do not take credit for all the keyboard images. These were taken from another thread that was made some time ago for an HTC-themed Swype keyboard (for WinMo phones). I just compiled the images into a MM and did a good bit of editing/reformatting images in order to comply with the newest Swype Beta. There are images suitable for the N1 and the Droid in this MM. Enjoy :)

Download: Swype_HTC.zip

Installation Instructions:

1. Make sure you have pushed Swype to /system/app
2. Install via MetaMorph as you would with any other MM file.*

*If you get an error along the lines of "the theme control file could not be found," then unzip the MM and place it in your AndroidThemes folder using your PC or Astro, instead of using MM to do it. Then install using "Pick Existing Theme."

Did you push Swype to /system/app?

MetaMorph can only theme system files, so you must push Swype to /system/app before you can apply the theme. It is located in /data/app if you installed it using Astro or the Swype Installer.

Ok I'm a bit confused. /system/app is where I'm going to put the zipped folder? Or do I put that in the AndroidThemes folder? Wait wait....I have to have Swype application on my phone before don't I? Do you have the apk for that?

1. You must have Swype on your phone before you can apply this theme. The file I provided in the OP is just a MetaMorph Theme.

You can get Swype from here (FOR NEXUS ONE): Download com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk for free on uploading.com

2. You MUST have Swype (the actual app) installed in /system/app in order to use this theme. To do this using ADB, place the swype apk in the "tools" folder of your SDK, open cmd and type:

Code:
adb push com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk /system/app
3. Extract my file (Swype_HTC.zip) and place the EXTRACTED FOLDER (titled Swype_HTC) in your AndroidThemes folder on your SD Card (this folder is created by MetaMorph).

4. Open MetaMorph, select "Pick Existing Theme" and navigate to Swype_HTC and choose the .thm file in there (it will be denoted with the MetaMorph logo beside the file name) and apply.

Thanks a lot bro. It worked.

Will this not work if I just copy the swype file from data/app to system/app in Root Explorer? I tried it that way (not near my PC) and it installed fine, no error message. When I started using it it would open up but would not recognized most of the buttons (space, delete) for example. So I went back to home but the keyboard would stay on the screen despite hit back and home a few times. I had to reboot and uninstall it.

It should work fine if you move swype from /data/app to /system/app using Root Explorer... that's what I did.

You didn't copy it and leave a copy of swype in /data/app did you?

That bug you're experiencing (as well as the multiple FC) seems strange... I never experienced any issues with this on my phone. I don't think it should matter what ROM you're using, as swype is just an app independent of the ROM.

Yeah that's what I used. I used root explorer to.... It's much easier using it that way...

Where did you get the Droid version of Swype?

Hey, do a search for the apk file I listed above. Once you download it, use adb to simply push the apk to the /system/app folder on your phone. Then voila! - you can choose it as an input option. That's what I did and it works like a charm.

The file that sh0ebox linked here gave me a ton of FC's too, but using the apk file I listed above fixed the problem.

Hope that helps.

Sh0e, the 5612 file was working flawlessly for me yesterday when I pushed it to my Droid. Did a clean install of the ROM I was using about 30 minutes ago, pushed the apk file to /system/app, but now I'm getting nothing but force closes.

I used rm to get rid of the apk and used the pm uninstall command on "com.swype.android.inputmethod" then tried to push it again. Even did the su, sync, reboot sequence, but it's still force closing left and right..

Any ideas?
