Simple reminder app like old nokia handphones?

Hi all , i'm new to the forum and a new owner of a htc magic. im loving it, but i really dont like the calendar and reminders in the phone. what i'd love would be a simple calendar where i can set reminders to notify me at a certain time , like the ones on nokia handphones. does anyone know of such an application? Also , on an unrelated note , does anyone know how to stop my phone from remembering what searches i'd typed before? i hate that it remembers everything i've typed. thanks.

I got my nokia droid about a month ago and I love it...I am also searching for a calender alert like the old style nokias. I have had many nokias and i used that calender for all of my reminders. It is such a simple setup, but was so useful to me on a daily basis. I need something like an alarm for reminders, but dont want to have to set my alarm clock for every single thing I need to do. This is my only complaint about the droid, and maybe there is an app for it and I just havent found it yet? I could care less about syncing to my gmail calender, and have tried a few different calender apps with no luck. Anyone know of a nokia style calender? Thanks for any help

Did you ever find an app to work? I too am looking for the same thing. My old Razor used to remind me of a calendar event before and AFTER the event...every 5 minutes. That's what I miss.
I found an app called "Missed Reminders" that does it but NOT for calendars.

The only thing I've been able to do is when using google calendar, go into the main site (desktop) and set your notifications to email your google account everytime an event comes up.
Then use an app called "Missed Reminders". This app can set unlimited reminders for missed emails, SMS.
The only problem is that Google is not very reliable (for me) sending out an email when it should.

It amazes me that almost all old phones could be set with all types of calendar reminders, but smartphones can't.

For simple timed reminders, I use a market app called: ColorNote

It ofc allows you to leave a note or message but you can set a reminder time. If you don't need the note or message portion, why not use the count down timer or Alarm built into your Clock app?

I'd like to keep this thread alive. I found it because I am frustrated with the android calendar and lack of apps to replace the old Nokia phones calendar.

Some of the features of the Nokia calendar are:
Add:
1. Meeting
2. Call
3. Birthday
4. Memo
5. Reminder

On Nokia:
Can set these to recur fortnightly.
Calls can be made made by pressing the call button when a call reminder is alerting.
The alert is continuous for 1 minute.
Can snooze.


I love the new Android phone, but have depended on the Nokia calendar a lot for my work. Can anybody help, please?

i just got a g1, coming from a nokia 6126. i'm also looking for exactly what TrueBlue is looking for.

i tried setting a call reminder using an app called "alarm call", but it's pretty tedious and doesn't seem to work right (it immediately reminds me to make a call when i enable the call's reminder, which i've set for a future date....).

nokia calendar is top tier, compared to the android calendar. i, too, like the fact that with a call reminder, you can just press the call button when the reminder pops up, and it will call that number. simple snooze/disable as well. i like it. really missing it now.

if anyone has a simple, elegant solution.. please help!

here's a possible solution for call reminders:

in the (google) calendar app, create a new event, and simply type in the person's number as the event title. then when you open the event, you can tap on the number, which will bring you to the dialer.

it's not ideal, but it works, more or less.

i'm not 100% sure how the nokia calendar worked, but it sounds like you will like calendar snooze. it reads your calendar and pops up an alert at the time you set your reminder. so if you set your reminder for an hour before the the event, it will pop up an hour before. if you don't dismiss the alert, it will repeatedly go off. you can set how many times it repeats. also, when the alert pops up it also gives you the option to snooze it for 5 - 10 - 30 min or 1-3-6 hours. the paid version allows you to snooze for a a day or more.

has anybody been able to find anything yet? i've never bought an app, but would definitely pay for an old nokia style calendar/alarm setup. frustrating how every single calendar app out there just mimics the google calendar but with a different interface.

When a reminder went off on my old Nokia the alert tone kept going for 1 minute unless you hit snooze or confirm. On Life Reminders app the alert tone only rings for a second or you can choose incessant ringing which wont stop at all no matter what you do. Also life reminders is not in a calendar format. I have 2 phones in my pocket. Cant live without Nokia reminders. Help !

just want to agree. i find it unbelieveable the ndorid calendars are so poorly speced. The Nokia calandar as TrueBlue said did

Really very very simple. I do not give a monkeys about syncing with a Google Calendar. It is of no use to me or millions of others.

I used intensively n=my google calendar as a diary/reminders/to-do list etc and am really disappointed there seems to be no equivalent.

And sync to FB? how daft is THAT LOL!!!! ( yes i know you do not have to)

And you know what else? In 6 years of having my Nokia 5500 i made hundreds of dairy/event/to do entries and never did they disappear like mine have twice now in Android .

I found something but is with payment. 4.75 Euro. Business Calendar. There is also a free version but does not have editable alarm notifications. Is the closest one to Nokia I found. Unfortunately there is a difference. At Nokia if the reminder "barked" it would stop automatically after 60 seconds and "barked" again after default snooze time. This you can edit to "bark" for a long time but after that it does not anymore. But is okay for me. I was especially an addict to Nokia because of this reminder. Hope it helps.

I set an activity or event and set the date and time and this reminder app uses the ringing tone of the phone so you will thing is someone calling you. And when it stops without you picking,it continues after ten minutes. So that you will see what you have set as a reminder
