Installing apps

Hi all

New member as I got my Desire today to replace my Iphone and so far I am loving the phone. What I would like to know is: is it only possible to download and install apps for the Desire via the PC first and then HTC sync them?
Or is there a way to download & install directly to the Desire?

How? Do I use an app similar to app store for iphone or do I use the web from my phone? Cos when I do this and goto Android Market it only has a shitty little list of apps

When you went to the Market did you try doing a search, or did you just look at the lists of featured and top apps?

Am I looking on the wrong webite? android.com/market/ cos it has no search function.

If your looking through the web site the selection is pretty slim... look via the marketplace app on the phone instead..

Many thanks, this is the answer to the original question, I didn't realise their was this kind of app on the phone as I have an Orange Desire and they have their own market place and I just assumed that this was the only app on my phone for this. Thank you

No problem... bit of a crosspost, but now I want to ask how to install downloaded apk files? Do I have to install a file browser to get to them?

OK seems best way is to install 'AppsInstaller' from the market...

Download an File Manager/App installer from Market
Connect phone to PC and select Hard Drive
Open up the drive from control panel and drag and drop your apps
Dismount the phone from PC
Open the File Manager/App Installer, search for your apps and install
