Galaxy Note S Pen / Stylus Holder

Well I have found that I like using the Pen quite a bit, but I have a bit of a paw vs a hand.

This caused some control problems but it was workable. While trolling eBay and Amazon I found the Samsung S Pen Holder Kit. It contains an S Pen and a normal full sized Pen shaped holder.

The Stock Note2 S Pen will not fit in the holder, but the round replacement S Pen that comes in the kit will. That S Pen will not stay in the Note2's pen slot though.

Much more comphy to use and a bit better pen control for me.

The cost was $38 which I thought was a bit much for it, I would like a little more solid feel and maybe some more weight but it's better than the stock pen for me.

I may have a buddy play around with making me some wooden blanks to take the round pen for a bit nicer holder.

But over all it works fine even with the stock pen clipped into the Note2's storage area. Takes notes like a champ and so far so good for everything I do working.

I actually liked this better than the stock ones that came with the Notes. The only gripe I had was that there was no eraser. The S Pen that comes with this is for the original Note 5.3" screen. It does not have a replaceable tip.

I am currently using the S Pen with eraser designed for the Note 10.1. It's way better as I use the eraser quite often when cleaning up some of my drawings. Much more better for my purposes. Right now, the S Pen holder is a backup.

That's the only reason I didn't pull the trigger on the holder (e.g. no eraser). I have the S-Pen with eraser also and love it. The only thing I've noticed is that, it's not quite as accurate/smooth as the OEM S-pen, which makes a little sense since it was designed before the Note 2 S-pen improvements. If the HM5100 BT S-Pen had an eraser, I probably would've purchased that already as well.

In all honesty, it'll work, but have serious flaws. Mainly calibration issues. I tried it with the MS Surface Pro pen and calibration was spot on if held perpendicular to the screen. However, tilt at an angle and it'll be off by a very good margin. Others have also tested with other Wacom pens and found the same calibration issues. And auto calibration with the Notes do not work.

Neo, that makes sense as those pens are tilt/brush sensitive.

More use today and I see few accuracy issues but nothing you cant train yourself to deal with.

Do they make a round N2 S Pen ?

There's the Bluetooth S Pen available, but quite pricey. Although nice, it lacks an eraser. Here's a comparison shot between the S Pen with eraser, S Pen holder and a regular BIC pen.

The S Pen with eraser is round. It's also slimmer and a little shorter than the S Pen holder. It does come with interchangeable nibs. Works on the Note 2 and is about a mm off in accuracy.

Oh, and the Wacom Intuos pens don't work at all. Makes sense as that has higher level of sensitivity (2048) and 2 buttons.

LOL. Yeah I read that a while ago.

But I think there's more to it and I think the screen digitizer also plays a part as well as the drivers and OS implementation, not just the Pen. It doesn't explain why you can only use one set of digital pens and not others. The Samsung branded S Pens work best across all the Notes with greater degree of accuracy. While unbranded ones will either work with less accuracy or not work at all.

An example would be the Wacom Bamboo Feel Pen. I did consider getting this, but did not because it is not compatible with the Note 2. It is only compatible with the original Note and Note 10.1. Wacom even stated that the list is specific and only the devices listed in its compatibility chart will work properly. Users trying this on their Note 2s and even the Note 8.0s stated accuracy and calibration issues.

So, maybe, there is something else going on between the device, screen and pen communicating with each other that determines compatibility.

Just my thoughts on the subject.
