Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Not open for further replies.
Sorry if this has already been shared.

Since we're all wondering what kind of internal storage space we'll see on the Evo, it is confirmed that the HTC Incredible will have 8GB of internal storage and WILL NOT ship with a micro sd card.

Curious if this will change anything from an Evo standpoint.

I am not sure about the Incredible having 8gb of on ram storage. (Personnally that would be odd) at may ship with a 8gb micro sd card (Not sure) I have herd the the EVO will ship with a 8gb micro sd card though. Hope that helps.

On the other hand I wold be going hands down with the EVO over the Incredible, just based off the added features EVO has over the Incredible. I.E> Front facing camera, HDMI TV Out, 8 device hotspot, and don't forget the cool kick stand :) Oh yeah! 4G:cool:

Course could understand if it is a personal carrier prefrence for you, sorry did not consider that.

Sincerly,

I don't know if anyone notice in the "The 4G network behind Sprint's EVO" video that he was running non HD quality youtube vid and that the download look slow (2:38) I couldn't tell if he was running in 4g mode while demo'ing the video on the EVO. I mean the guy seemed to be a little noobish to meh.

Here is the link to vid and check at 2:38 on the video download progress bar.

Hey guys, yess do not be surprised if you here of Sprint and Walmart around Q4 2010. This is something Sprint has been talking with Walmart for sometime. If you saw that video Drex left it shows why its possible. All you need is some routers in a file cabinet like enclosure and an antenna on the top of the building. It would benefit walmart and Sprint...it only makes "sense"

As far as froyo goes, i told you nothing is like a nice frozen yogurt on a hot summer day. Especially on or around June 6th waiting in line to get one at a Sprint store. Who ever thought Sprint would be selling Frozen Yogurt? Not me....

hahah Jackson

ohh hope you all liked the hardware, that may be the only thing u recognize...

Um,

showcase the multimedia capabilities of HTC EVO™ 4G, the world’s first Android phone.

That's gotta be the biggest typo I ever saw! haha

Yeah, it's either a BIG typo...or the whole thing is a fake. The wording of the entire ad/invitation looks suspicious. Even at the end where it says non-transferable it just seems poorly worded. At face value I see no reason to doubt this event and yet the wording throughout seems just a hair under the normal standards for literature involving such announcements. I wonder if one of the guys in the know...perhaps Supersonic / Jackson...can verify?

I haven't seen anything about Wal-Mart putting WiMAX on top of their stores since it was reported in January. For that reason, I have to remain skeptical, but I hope you're right, Jackson.

I posted this in the WiMAX thread back in early February:

1-12-2010 - A rumor that Wal-Mart and Sprint plan to work together in an effort to grow the nationwide WiMAX network. This includes placing WiMAX towers on the top of all Wal-Mart locations. Many stores overlap each other in a 30-50 mile radius. Essentially, this would be enough to cover a good chunk of the United States. Plus, this would not cost nearly as much as erecting towers and dealing with hassles like zoning permissions.

This is nothing new as I found articles going back to 2004 stating that Wal-Mart wanted to install base stations attached to all of its stores "to bestow broadband Internet access upon a good portion of the US".

Even if it is still in rumor phase...Im starting to believe it. In fact it would be ingenious if Sprint was able to make this deal happen.

If they were able to plop a tower/cabinet in every Walmart, you would have a 4G network pretty much covering over all 3G networks.

AT&T and Verizon would be to far behind with LTE to ever catch up to that....plus the fact that neither of the two are calling LTE stable yet. I can see this all happening....first you roll out the EVO, turn up a few more markets, make sure the WiMax/4G network is stable.....

Then BAM hit them hard, activate towers on every Walmart....take over the country next? Then, PROFIT????

For everyone worrying about he internal storage (both the incredible and the EVO), all you have to do is look at the HTC Diamond to see what they're doing. Basically, HTC installs an internal storage card, that is non-removable, but acts much like an SDCard. My assumption is, they are doing the same thing for these 2 phones. Giving it 8GB of internal storage, and then adding a MicroSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

HTC did not put an external card slot in the diamond, but there is 4GB of internal storage built into the phone.

Did anyone else notice the last line on one of Jackson's posts? The only thing we'll recognize is the hardware? Jackson - does that mean that both Android and Sense are being completely updated / rewritten for this release? Have you seen / heard of what might be changing from an UI perspective?

Thanks for all the tips / updates / sharing of information on this amazing device.

I really hope the Wal-Mart deal does happen, because it would be the icing on the cake, but even if it doesn't, I expect WiMAX to spread wide and far over the next 18 months. The only reason I remain a skeptic is because I haven't heard anything about Wal-Mart getting involved lately. As I mentioned above, I've seen articles about this going back to 2004. That's six years of nothing materializing.

Well I just did some quick snooping around billsmed.....and maybe we are all looking at this wrong.

Its doesnt exactly have to be Sprint that teams up with Walmart....it could be Clearwire(Which would make more sense) or any of the other Companies getting involved with WiMax.

If it ends up being any of them, especially Clearwire, it means the 4G Network will expand to huge levels. Infact Clearwire....who Sprint invested in, would be the smart one to make this deal happen.

The only problem with that is (and correct me if I'm wrong) I believe clearwire expressed that they are low on funds to expand past their current plans. If i remember correctly that came out in an interview from CTIA

I agree with you totally, evotitans. Most of us have a Wal-Mart store close by, and that would make it a sweet deal. When I researched this back in February, I found out Wal-Mart wanted to do this back in 2004, so they could offer cheap Internet service to the masses. That never materialized, but it hasn't stopped the rumors.

In the first post of the WiMAX thread, I included some articles in the history section about the Sprint/Clearwire merger and their partners, including Cable operators Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks, as well as tech giants Intel and Google have invested a combined $3.2 billion in the new company, which is valued at $14.5 billion. Sprint has a 51% interest in the new company running under the name Clear.

Sprint is aware of Wal-Mart's interest in WiMAX and it would be great if they were involved. Just look at the following map that shows all the Wal-Mart locations across the country:

Believe me, I hope this does happen, but I'm a little skeptical at this point since that hasn't been any leaks about it that I'm aware of.

Remember Sprint all but owns Clearwire too.

Thats what I mean though....Clearwire could be the "name" we are looking for, to see a deal with Walmart, not Sprint.

And yea its been noted that Sprint is the one funding new towers for the network....considering it cost Sprint considerably less to run 4G, then deal with the 3G network.

im not trying to bring the mood down but those green dots are 30 mile radius and from my understand the wimax signal has from between 1.5 and 3 mile coverage.
