So last I synced my phone was about a month ago so I went to sync it again yesterday to get all my new music and an error popped up saying "USB Device not recognized" So I went to another computer same thing. One is running win8 the other win7. I uninstalled Kies and all driver and reinstalled them on both computers same thing USB error. I tried my girlfriends S3 today and it connected no problem. So I know its a problem with my phone and not my computers. I have tried clearing the cache rebooting in safe mode and download mode, pulling out the battery and sim and pretty much everything else with no fix. What else am I missing here or what should I try?

No this is the only USB cored I have, the USB worked with my girlfriends phone so I dont see why it wouldnt work for mine?

hmmm, true, true ;) But perhaps the fit is just right in your g-friends phone but a little loose in yours and therefore cannot quite connect properly....just a thought...?:)

Cavy don't know if this is related but my S3 connected with my computer every time until I just recently installed Nova Launcher and I'm NOT ROOTED. Now since installing Nova I can't connect and get the same error as you.

I uninstalled Nova back to the stock jellybean and now I can connect. Not sure what's up as I just discovered this earlier today. I'll try another Launcher and see if the results are the same. I'll keep you posted...

Tbh, I don't believe Nova has anything to do with this problem. I believe Sharkz discovery I s coincidental. I have been using Nova for several months now and with various ROMs from Stock TW custom ROMs to AOSP and CM10.1, no problems ever like this.

I would look more towards corrupt Windows drivers and, therefore, uninstall and reinstall a set of naked drivers (not through Kies) - you will find plenty of links for these and as previously mentioned, the connectivity through USB cables can be tricky sometimes. What works for one device does not necessarily work for another. They are so cheap now you should always have some hanging around.

Well, either there is some dirt in the usb port, or the port is bad.
Got some "air in a can"? Works better than blowing in the port:) If that doesn't work, then suffice to say, I think your usb port may be borked :(
I really don't have any more ideas my friend.
Some one else may, but I am clean out of them:(

Hahaha its cool man, thanks for all your help thus far. I will try cleaning it out I have some electronics cleaner I can spray in there, I just dont get why I would charge and everything but wouldnt connect to my PC. Idk I'm baffled I'm actually on the phone with Samsung right now, if they miraculously fix it I will post how.

Lol yeah sorry im out of ideas too. At least youve backed up what you can in case you have to get it repaired/replaced
Good luck man :)

P.s, i think charging only uses two pins in the connector but data connection needs more

hmmmm, you bring up a good point there funky, as I have heard of some usb cables that are just for charging only even though they look identical.....:)

Haha thanks guys, yeah I think its something with the port on the phone itself, after talking to Samsung for 30 minutes they said only thing they can do at this point is have me send it in for them to diagnose the problem which would take 5 days then 2 days to fix it. I obviously said no because I cant go that long without a phone. I tried cleaning out the port and also took the mother board out to clean all the connections where the micro usb attaches to the mother board with no fix. I think I'll just deal with it for another 9 days and go get an S4 or HTC One when I get my upgrade from AT&T. Unless someone else chimes in with a solution ;)
