Droid down... Droid or Incredible?

So today I made the awesome move of dropping my phone in the parking lot, shattering the screen and destroying the LCD display (it's not just cracked, the screen does not turn on).

No, I do not have insurance.

So do I drop the 550 on a new Droid, 280 (is what I've been told) on the Refurbished Droid, or do I wait 12 days and drop the money (I'm guessing 600 off contract) on the Incredible?

I'm leaning towards the Incredible.

Incredible, but don't ever spam two of the same topics in two different threads. Thanks.

As much as that story hurt me, and as much as it hurts to even type this cause I am honestly inlove with my droid.. like seriously..id marry this fine piece of ass.......heh.....Incredible ftw =]. HTC make good touch screen so Im sure that the lack of physical keyboard will not be an issue. Itll be great....the hard part would be to live unplugged for 12 days... this episode in ur life will be your Detox. ENJOY! =D

Let's think about this , you have the option of getting a refurbished driod for half the pric e of nearly the same phone without a keyboard . Yeah the droid has slighty slower processor and 3mp more on the camera ,but that's really it . Sence ui will the ROMed up in no time , screen size is the same size , unless ur printing your not gona miss the 8mp camera .

If you are gona upgrade nd spend that much more money then get a phone that separates itself from the rest with things others can't . Say front facing camera , bigger screen , 4g connectivity, better keyboard(I still love mine,I'm on it now) , I can almost gaurantee big red and htc will come up with something in the near future , save the extra money for a real upgrade in 6 months or so.

If you can't qualify for a upgrade, I say go on Craigslist and buy another Droid. Alot cheaper then at the Verizon store. I've bought a few phones off Craigslist and haven't had a problem. Then like someone already said, wait til the end of the year to buy whatever phone that a have better specs then the Inc. Root and overclock the Droid and you'll be fine. Hopefully Droid 2 a grace us with its presence!

HTC make good touch screen=

Yeah, like the unprecedented quality of the Nexus One?

Honestly, I can't stand it when people call the Droid outdated or obsolete or something else that it isn't. So it comes with a 550MHz OMAP processor. It can be overclocked to 1.2GHz (some phones can handle 1.3GHz) if you so please. The benchmarks with a custom ROM are negligibly slower than they are with CyanogenMod on the N1 and the real-world differences are absolutely nothing. Nada.

Can I add another option to the list? Drop Verizon, suck up the ETF, and get the HTC EVO under a 1-year contract with Sprint. It'll cost about as much as getting a Droid or Incredible with no contract and the HTC EVO is actually a worthy upgrade; 4.3" screen and 4G? Yes please.

Well the touch screen wasn't made by HTC, it was Synaptic's Clearpad2000; but they're using the maXTouch on the Droid Incredible and EVO 4G.

On that note, I don't understand the concept of following the phone onto other carriers... makes no sense to me.

I can understand that , say you want a iphone , just cause you want one . Where you gonna get it at ??? att gotta follow ..... but you are right about the screen there is a new one not the one on the nexus 1 . supposed to be really good (its on engadget)
Moving to Sprint would not be a good move overall. Verizon's customer service is far better, but if you're a gambler, make the change. We'll see ya again in two years.
Verizon customer service is not that great ether , at least sprint will bend a bit on charges and pricing , granted they need the customers , but big red can be a bit brutish .

just what i was noting up there , the evo is the phone of choice if you are going to make a change . incredible is really more of a lateral movie IMO

Exactly. Right now, the EVO is the only "upgrade" from the Droid; everything else is same old; not that same old is a bad thing, I love my Droid, but don't expect something amazing unless you go with the EVO and even then, it's not going to be groundbreaking. It's faster data, front-facing camera, and big screen.

Right, so you might as well skip all of it and wait for next year.

If you think the Droid took a hard fall, wait and see what will happen to the cheaply made Incredible.

I will still be within my 30 days when the Incredible comes out, but I can't see leaving my Droid for it.

The Incredible has a weaker screen that will scratch easier, a screen that you can't use when you're outside, a cheap plastic body and poor battery life.

What's the benefit of the Incredible? Sense UI? I'm not impressed.

Just based on what I've read about the Incredible and the specs, I'd PERSONALLY stay with the Droid because I LOVE the build quality (the Incredible is an ugly piece of plastic, to me), I don't want a phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard, I'm not a huge fan of Sense UI (it has some cool widgets but it's not a must-have), and I loooooooove the root/ROM development community for the Droid (yes, I know the HTC root community has a lot of support and it will be very good in due time).

I'm just not impressed with the Incredible but then again I'm rooted and I'm running a super cool ROM. If I were a stock Droid user, I'd probably be leaning SLIGHTLY towards the Incredible because it is SLIGHTLY better than the Droid. The EVO 4G, now that's a different story...I'm willing to overlook its lack of physical keyboard.

Here's the bottom line: If you don't mind plastic/light-weight phones and you really like Sense UI then you should DEFINITELY go with the Incredible.
