Help! Did a factory reset and now I have no service...

So, I was one of the people with an Eris that was not receiving MMS messages anymore. Because of this I decided to do a factory reset at the suggestion of some users with the same problem and now that I have done one I no longer have service. I was able to download stuff from the marketplace, but no calls or texts.

Whenever I make a phone call it says "welcome to verizon wireless, your service has been temporarily disconnected, please call your customer service representative."

I have done *228 to reprogram and activate, I have done it to update roaming, and I pushed 3 and activated the phone again but said it was already active. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can't call customer service from my phone, even that won't work. I'm on verizon by the way. But thanks none the less. I'll head to the store today if i can't get it working

Sorry that happened to you, lilmoose.

Verizon customer service does see that from time to time following a full reset; they'll fix it for you or replace the device.

Dial *22899 should be good to go. No call to Customer Service needed.

Well, it could work. That's the number Verizon reps dial just before they give the device to the customer; it's a PRL update, "activation" being completed when that's done.

But if lilmoose has a defective device, that won't work. I suspect that is the case because of the need to do the reset to begin with.

It is worth a try.

A week ago Friday my phone fell into a continuous ["rotating green circle" LOADING] cycle. Pulled the battery, did numerous resets... after about 12hrs it was just a black screen of death with the message "no service". I called Customer Service (from a landline) and since no menus were available at all, they had me do a factory reset. Still nothing. They suggested I head to the Verizon store which I did the next morning. The Verizon store employees were unable to resolve anything either and said they'd replace the phone for free. Of course, they had none in stock nor did any other Verizon store within 100 miles so they were to ship one 2-day FedEx. Since this was a Saturday it didn't ship until Monday (from a warehouse about 50 miles away). It didn't get to me until Thursday so I was without a phone from Fri morning until the next Thursday night.

Hope your experience is better.

Thats why you keep an older phone handy instead of throwing it away or trading it in. I have an lg decoy that works flawlessly. A week ago my wifes eris died, i called verizon and they said they'd ship one out 2nd day fedex, but since it was after 5:30pm EST it wouldn't go out until the next day. My wife uses her phone for her business so i asked what they could do for me because i was in a bind and she'd be very upset if she didn't have a phone for 3 days. They asked if i had an older phone handy, i said yes i sure do. They reprogrammed it to her # and viola, she had a phone until hers arrived on friday.

Yesterday i called up verzion and asked if i could upgrade from the eris to the incredible, they said yes but you'd need to send the eris back today so we can get it back in the system and give you the discount on the incredible. So i packed it up, slapped the return label on it and sent it back. But this left me without a phone, so i called them back up and asked if they could switch my decoy back to my account and reactivate it so i can use it while i wait for the incredible. They said sure no problem. They had me read some numbers off the back and within 3 minutes it was reprogrammed, activated and i made a test call to verify the activation. So now i've got my old decoy back and my wife has her new eris. All this would not have been possible had i gotten rid of the decoy when i got my new eris's. Moral of the story, keep a phone as backup just in case, you never know ;)

I have never gotten rid of ANY cellphone I've ever had. I have three of them from Verizon sitting in the drawer right here so If I'd known this was an option, I would've taken steps to use one of them

Yes, it is an option. I have a feeling you can actually do it yourself with the *228 option. Could be wrong, but...

If not, VZW will do it over the phone, for sure. And yes, another phone, not your cell phone with no service.
