Help G1 Draining my Battery like Water!!!

Hey everyone!

I am new to the t-mobile service and have a G1. My G1 battery is draining really, really fast! Does anyone know why? I only have running an IM program called "ebuddy" which I downloaded from the g1 phoe market.

Is there a program that show's all applications running in the background??? Like that i can see what is draining my battery so fast???

Thanks!

p.s. I'm at work with a dead phone! I haven't even talked on my phone since 6am. HELP!!!

First off...if you downloaded ebuddy you likely have downloaded other things. This happened to me too. Start by:

turn off 3g, turn off wifi, turn off bluetooth and turn of location by NON-GPS (towers).

Then consider deleting apps especially new ones off the device. I actually removed a few that were causing issue, though I have no idea why there were. It's a slow process, but the only way.

Often times less knowledgeable apps have memory leaks or leave battery draining radios turned on, even though they should not.

screen brightness makes a difference. I recently changed mine to 10% most of the time and it's made quite an improvement. Running an app like ebuddy nonstop is going to eat battery. That constant communication is a battery eater.

to give you an idea of what you should expect, I use my phone moderately, sms a little, have auto sync on for contacts, gmail, and calendar, have bluetooth on, use it to play music around 1.5 hours a day (during commute), web surf a little, on 3g, and I easily get 1 day (18 hours).

If this is your first day, and you have been playing a lot with it, then that can cause battery drain. if the only app you have is the IM app, try a different one. I noticed a huge battery drain when I tried an IM app, so I got rid of it.

You might try Meebo instead. I found Meebo works fine in the foreground and lousy in the background.

Turn off 3G. That uses a lot of energy. Turn your screen brightness down.

WiSyncPlus is a great app for managing battery life and data access. Using WiSyncPlus, you could, for example, set your phone to auto-sync only when the screen is turned on, or periodically, or only when connected to a charger.

At first I thought eBuddy was transfering huge amounts of data over the network, but apparently not. Spare Parts was reporting huge data usage, but maybe eBuddy is using sockets locally or something. NetMeter shows reasonable network usage.

I have the exact same problem with my g1. I bought the extended battery and the battery life doesnt seem much better. I turnee off everything and put brightness to thw lowest level but I still lose like 25% battery life in less than half an hour. Anyone have suggestions or solutions for this?

With you phone on ... charger NOT connected ... Pull the Battery

Wait 3 minutes .. reinstall batter ... connect chanrger and let charge to 100% plus a couple hours more ... remove charger

Use phone and monitor rate of discharge... (dont use any special app for battery monitor)

Use settings menu to check Battery % ..then when it is down to 30% do another Full charge + at least one hour ...

This will hopefully help your situation .... part of this may be the battery monitor regulation of the phone and not the issue of the battery ...

Everything the people are saying below is True ...Turning Off Your GPS, Bluetooth,Wifi, 3G(specially if you live in an area that only uses Edge)Lower Brightness to 20% doesn't have to be as low as 10 but that is up to you. Turning Off things like Data Roaming ..Who wants to get charged for that? In My Case all of this work ..But i went Ahead and got the 2600 Mah extended battery and Battery door.. Did a test of my own and Turned wifi on , GPS , And Bluetooth and made a couple of calls like 30 mins each and did not charge my phone 3 days later which i was happy that i didn't get a piece of crap..So I'm thinking it has like 10 day stand by if i turn off everything typically to make a regular battery to last long

In response to the initial post, I had heard that the Donut update was supposed to have a task manager that could monitor system and battery use. I got the update on the 3rd but haven't been able to find it. Anyone know if it has one now or not? And how to find it?

Thats easy man! Settings > About Phone > And is right there below the Status option says " Battery Use"
