Help General questions thread/discussion (New to Android/M7?)

I was messing around with my camera settings and I clicked on the HDR button, which turned on the High Dynamic Range setting. It takes three quick photo's in a row and then combines them in to one image. It really doesn't work if you're holding the phone because your hand will always shake and make the combined image blurry, so I wanna turn it off. Problem is, I can't. I can't click on the same HDR button to turn it off, I can't turn my phone off and turn it back on with the setting set back to default, and I can't find any menu setting anywhere else that would let me turn the HDR mode off.

Anyone know the secret?

if you want to ADD extra phone numbers, emails, street addresses, etc,

edit the contact, and next to where you have a number entry in that contact, there is a "+" on the right side of that entry field. tap that and you get an extra entry point to add a mobile number, etc.

is this not what you are asking?

Say you have a friend that has a mobile number in Japan and the US to where you want to add one more mobile number and say mobile Japan for example. This can easily be done on the Samsung Note 2 but on the HTC ONE we do not have a custom option under telephone numbers.

When you hit the + button you get the same options. You still have only one Mobile number, home number or work number you can add. What if a person has 2 or 3 mobile or home numbers? On the Samsung Note and previous versions of HTC Smartphones one could hit the custom button and add a custom number such as " Mobile Japan" or "Mobile Shanghai" etc.. No longer see this option on this supposedly smartphone. Businessmen that travel often have more than one number that they need to add per contact. One could have a work number for Hong Kong,Shanghai and New York. We can not just put them all down under just one "Work" label/number or one "Mobile" label/number.

That's odd, if I repeatedly hit +, I can add a lot of additional numbers and select an appropriate tag.

The same can be done with email addresses

:)

 Sorry, missed the custom label bit, ignore the above !!

Based on prior posts, it seems like Androidexpat is overseas (compared to USA) if I am understanding correctly?
In the past, some carriers have taken liberties and modified People. Not entirely likely, but there is a small chance that there could be a carrier difference here. Androidexpat, it may help if you are able to identify which version of People your phone is using and which build of Android and Sense software your One is running.

In People there is a nice way to link contacts and associate multiple numbers. Look for a small icon that looks like chain links. You can have multiple Mobile numbers linked under one contact card.
There are Groups you could set up.
There is also a clever way to Merge contacts.

I can see your frustration though. On my old device with Sense 4+ running & People v4.5.468279, There is a hard limit per new unlinked contact card. I can only have these amounts Per Contact I'm adding:
1 x Mobile
2 x Home
2 x Work
1 x Work Fax
1 x Home Fax
1 x Pager
1 x Radio
1 x Car
1 x Company main line
1 x Assistant
1 x Other
13 Total
I wonder what happens if you set up A contact on a different device or in Gmail with multiple Mobile numbers on one contact and then import it as a vCard(.vcf)/.csv/contact card/?

I am overseas but I ordered mine from the US. You can add another mobile number but then you will get the same option to add another mobile so now you see two mobile numbers both showing up as "mobile" and if "work" then both show up as work. There is no custom option at the bottom of the list to custom name an extra number like there is on the Samsung Note 2 or on previous versions of the HTC smartphones.

Here is an example from the Apple contacts where you have other at the bottom of the list and the other you can customize. On the Samsung Note 2 and Galaxy S3&4 one can do the same.

This is exactly what I am talking about. I do not have that last option of custom in my labels option for my telephone numbers in my Developers Edition HTC ONE  Mine only goes down to other with no custom option.

I'm syncing to Google only on an older phone running ICS and I've got that option.

Ok, dumb question but forgive me - does your list of options scroll?

Mine does scroll and the last option in the labels section is other. There should be one other label under other that says "custom".

Yes, set to medium

Reason I was asking is that marctronixx new screen shot is like my old one - the dialog box is big enough without scrolling.

I was hoping that if it were the same size and needed scrolling, then maybe it was a font-related bug that we could help solve.

If the dialog is smaller then maybe that would confirm a version change. We saw some fixed dialogs turn into smaller scrolling ones on the ICS to JB update on HTCs.

How about this? Please share your People version, via main settings, manage apps.

Mine has two in there, not sure why though.

Do not have manage apps. Have "Manage Contacts".

Not sure what you mean. Running Android 4.1.2
HTC Sense 5.0

wasn't trying to suggest it was _ONLY_ on the sprint version. I was making it clear to the op that the phone i use is a sprint version and i am quite certain other carriers' devices also have this extra option.

That is strange. It's not a Sprint addition, because my unbranded international handset has the "Custom" option as well. It seems very odd to leave it out of the Developer Edition.

---

OP, what you can try an do, is go into your google account on the computer and then hit your contacts there. once you edit a contact on your google account on the computer, you have the option to add custom entries. its a workaround. see attached image...

Could it be related to what account y'all are syncing your contacts to?

Good thinking. This must be a Google/Gmail thing?

As mentioned prior, I did not have the Custom option showing on my Evo 4G LTE running Sense 4+, Android 4.1.1, & People v4.5.468279. NO Google account configured.

I configured my Google account on this phone and went to add a contact in People. People now has my Gmail info in it and now when I set up a Contact I have the choice to set up a Phone only contact or a Google contact as well. When selecting Google contact I have the option of 'Custom' added to this list of types. I'm also able to set up mutliple 'Mobile' numbers for the same Contact.
Also note - on the computer when accessing Gmail and browsing the Contacts saved to it independent of the mobile device, the 'Custom' type is one of the options within. (haha, ninja'd by Marc :))

Androidexpat, do you have a Google/Gmail account actively configured on your phone, and do you have People set up to display your Google contacts?

Yes, I think that's a good call on the contact type. All of mine are currently Google contacts. When I created a phone only contact just now, "custom" was not one of the options (and "radio" was - I've no idea what a radio number would be, but I see that one was also on the list that lacked custom above). So I reckon that's what's going on.

I was hoping we would have this "custom" option as part of the phone label features just like all other basic phones had way back since the basic Nokias even had. Even the older HTC P3600 had this feature when HTC was known as P3600 had this custom label option. I do not think that one now has to have to sync with Google or Facebook to have the "custom" label feature available on their smartphone.

Does anyone have this feature on their HTC ONE of which is not syncing with Google or Facebook?

I tried searching on this and ironically found a thread in my previous device's forum (HTC Desire) from 2010, describing exactly the same restriction. Which means I don't hold out much hope :(

I did wonder whether a third party contacts app might offer it, but couldn't find one which mentioned the feature. I tried one, but it just used the standard contact adding dialogue - which TBH is what I'd have done to maintain compatibility. So while there might be something out there, I've not been able to find it so far.
