Android noob here , Help and suggestions needed

Okay , So I got a HTC hero from HongKong last year.
I know very little about android.
I am on firmware 1.5

I wanted to know :
1) Is firmware 2 , 2.1 out for Htc Hero ?
2) If yes , how can I update my phone?

My phone is unlocked, i can use it with any carrier .
Also 1 strange thing i noticed .
When I boot the phone , It say 'HAMI' in big letters. What is that?

build number - 2.73.751.4 146733 CL#61205 release-keys

2. When it comes you will be prompted on you phone automatically when it detects update.

As for the HAMI since you got it from hong kong maybe a manufacture sig or something?

So u mean that i will be prompted eventhough i am in INDIA ? and i have an unlocked phone?

Also how to get those leaked versions? Are they safe?

So 1.5 is the latest for htc hero right now?

There is a firmware update on the way (was supposed to be there 2 days ago, but there is some speculation that this has been pushed forward to the end of this month, or early next month), if I were you I'd wait.

As for the leaked version : {Rom}[32b]Eclair Hero Droid 2.1 V.3.1 12/9/09 - xda-developers

But again, like I said, best wait. I can't say much about unlocked phones as I've never had any first hand experience with firmware updates for my factory unlocked phone (I'm guessing you mean it is factory unlocked) so sorry am not much help there

The disadvantage is that it's not the final version of the update. If you want to wait, i just read somewhere that the official update is coming in June.

If am not mistaken.. it will be on HTC's website under the support section. You will have to follow the instructions, so yes.. via Wi-Fi
