My HTC Ones' In-call volume is too loud when receiving calls, adjust it down and it stays there so long as I don't switch off the phone and switch on again.
Whenever I off and switch on again, the In-call volume is back to loud setting regardless of which setting it was. It happens to my wife's phone too so it is not likely to be a defect in my phone.
Does anyone have this issue?

Other than this issue, the One is the best phone I have used.
Excellent build quality, awesome front speakers, beautiful screen,
nothing to fault. Just looking forward to 4.2.2.

Cheers

Same here, but my alarm that wakes me is too loud. I have tried resetting by:

settings>sound> adjust the 3 sliders

But to no avail

I have downloaded a volume control app this morning and lets see how that goes...............

I tried about 4 to 5 different volume apps, equaliser apps etc. but still didn't solve the issue.
I called the HTC Service dept. (in Singapore) and was told that this is the standard features of HTC One that the In-call volume will always return to 3/4 setting whenever the phone is switch on. They told me that others have also brought up this issue but there is no way to adjust or set the volume to a desired setting, unless you don't switch off the phone.
Looks like we have to accept this small inconvenient for this excellent phone. Life is never perfect.:)
Hopefully the coming 4.2.2 upgrade is able to addresses this issue.

Hi Rob Jones, which Volume apps you downloaded, I can't find the apps.
I tried Volume Control by Truapps, RevsoDev, Volume Control+ by Coffeebreak Apps etc. but all don't work.
Whenever I switch off the phone and switch on again, the In-Call volume is back to high setting.
My phone is now updated to 4.2.2 and it's still the same.
All other volume setting such as ringtones, notifications, media, alarm is OK, remains at the desired settings.

I have been having the same issue. Volume maximum for headset and speaker, and unable to raise or lower it with the buttons on the side.

The issue for me was that Hearing Aid Optimization was turned on. There was an icon at the top that looked like a Bluetooth headset icon.

I opened the phone dialer, went to menu...settings, and unchecked Hearing aids. Once I did that the icon next to the WiFi signal strength disappeared and I was able to control the volume in call by using the buttons on the side of the phone.

Hope this helps!

welp, what have you done to troubleshoot?

lets get on the same page:

are you rooted?
what carrier?
are you using a wired or wireless (BT) headset?
*DO* you use wired headsets (reason im asking is the physical headset port could be causing issues)
have you contacted your carrier to see if any network issues are happening in your zip code?
does this happen to any caller on any network?
you have done a reboot im sure, how about a power button+vol up sequence?
fastboot unticked in settings?

could be a temp issue. could be an app on your device.

It's a Google bug: a lot of HTC One handsets have suffered it. The trouble is that certain Google apps update silently, so the user doesn't generally known it's happened, and if one of these has a bug you don't have the option of not updating unless you disable them completely.

You could try clearing data for Google Play Store, Google Play Services and Google Services Framework. That cleared it up for me.

Hi

I have recently had a severe problem where if I try and make a call I can't hear the ringer, or anything for that matter (even if the recipient has picked up and started talking). I have tested this and they also can't hear anything I say.

I have actually done a factory reset and this seemed to have temporarily solved the issue. Though just a couple of days later it has arisen again. Could it be that an update made to the phone after the reset is interfering with the drivers to the microphone/speaker or something?

Any help is appreciated as this makes making and receiving phone calls on my phone redundant. The phone is unfortunately out of warranty as well.

seems someone a post or two up has a similar issue.

in order for someone to offer you help, you must tell the class more info than "i cant hear" ;)

lets get on the same page:

are you rooted?
what carrier?
are you using bt headset or just the phone only to make calls?
what happens if you activate speakerphone? same issue?
how long have you had the phone? are you the only owner? is it a refub/factory replacement? did you purchase used from 3rd party?
using any apps that take control of the phone audio and/or in-call audio?

you mentioned you did a factory reset, yet the issue came right back? this may be a temp issue in your area with the carrier. have you contacted your carrier to see if there are any issues in your area?
does it matter if you call anyone on any carrier? if you call them or they call you , does this make a difference?

kindly answer these questions so others can offer some help. the more we know about your phones environment, the better one can offer support.

are you rooted? - Not rooted
what carrier? - Giff Gaff
are you using bt headset or just the phone only to make calls? - Just the phone
what happens if you activate speakerphone? same issue? - Same issue with or without speaker phone
how long have you had the phone? are you the only owner? is it a refub/factory replacement? did you purchase used from 3rd party? - Purchased new in and around July 2013
using any apps that take control of the phone audio and/or in-call audio? No

you mentioned you did a factory reset, yet the issue came right back? this may be a temp issue in your area with the carrier. have you contacted your carrier to see if there are any issues in your area? - I don't think it's a carrier issue as my dad uses the same carrier as me and has reported no problems.

does it matter if you call anyone on any carrier? if you call them or they call you , does this make a difference? - Doesn't make a difference unfortunately

Hi AdamM90, I know you've done a factory reset but have you done a 'wipe cache partition'. It has cleared a number of issues for me and I've got into the habit of doing it after every OS update and at intervals between updates. It only takes a couple of minutes and does not affect any data or settings, so it may be worth giving it a try, and it seems there is no certainty that a factory reset will clean up the cache partition.

Before booting into Recovery, ensure that fast boot has been turned off:

1. Tap Menu

2. Tap Settings

3. Tap Power

4. Uncheck the box for Fast boot.

Once fast boot has been turned off, reboot into Recovery to wipe cache partition:

1. Power off the device
2. While holding down the Volume Down button, press the Power button. The device will boot into the bootloader which is a white screen with 3 Androids at the bottom screen.
3. Using the Volume Down button, select RECOVERY
4. Press the Power button to select the option. Device will reboot into a black screen with a red exclamation mark in a red triangle atop a device.
5. Press Volume Up and Power button to get into the Recovery menu.
6. Using Volume Down button, highlight the Wipe cache partition option.

NOTE: Be sure that Wipe cache partition is highlighted. Do not choose Wipe data/factory reset as this will result in loss of data!

7. Press the Power button to select the option
8. When the process, is complete, ensure that Reboot system now option is highlighted.
9. Press the Power button to select the option and reboot the device into the OS.

Note:- I found that the reboot in step 4 takes about 45 seconds to complete.

Hi tommo47,
I am having the same issue. I would have accepted the restart volume forgetting but its quite annoying to hear a very loud volume on every call. I have to bring it down on every single call whether its outgoing or incoming. I am using M7. I tried to follow the procedure of reset the cache partition. I followed the procedure. It shows the recovery option as soon I click power button on it, it goes in a stage where it shows the black screen with red exclamation. It stays there for long and than restarts the phone. I could not go to the option of clearing that bloody cache. I have disabled the fast boot option as well.
I am having another similar issue. I often see the volume bar without the side button being pressed. They appear and raise the ringer volume to full. Looks like a ghost has turned up the volume. I can bear that as well. But its hard to get away with bursting hear sounds as some time you cant manage to bring volume low in start of every call.

Please help

Hi greatayan,

Although I've never had a problem it seems that step 5 is critical - someone had exactly the same as you ie rebooting.

When you see the black screen and exclamation mark (step 4), try :-

5) Press and hold volume up then tap the power button.

You should then get the recovery menu, release volume up and use volume down to select 'wipe cache partition'.

The critical part is to just tap the power button.

Hope this helps and that wiping cache sorts the issue for you.

:)

Hi,

Thanks. I did a hard reset. The issue solved for me. I realized that it appeared when I tried to restore my phone including the settings from my old phone through back up HTC app. The setting were trying to over rid the setting phone had. So the same problem of low volume can be over come by resetting the phone to Original settings through the same options of pressing long both power and down volume.
Before that I took the phone to a phone repair shop. He told me that if you try to open the boot lock option the camera will turn out to blur and pink camera issue will develop that will never cure. So don't try to up/down grade the android version and don't try to unlock the boot.
