New AT&T update available today (2013.07.09)

Still don't have this update yet...Contacted Samsung and they said to contact ATT. Contacted ATT, spoke with them for almost an hour while they did stuff on their side...never got it working. He told me to factory reset the phone and that should take care of it. Did that this morning and of course it didn't help. Still says I'm up to date. Any ideas/suggestions?

Well, it's official at least in my tiny brain!
After having installed this latest update on both S4's the AT&T S4 had to get a factory reset last week to be functional, and the VZW S4 had to be factory reset today.
Both had the same issue after the update.
Within a matter of hours on the AT&T S4, and a matter of a few days on the VZW S4, both phones got hung up on the restart and refused to boot past the carrier logo portion of the boot. They just stalled out and no amount of battery pulls would correct this. Both required the factory reset to be done manually. UGHHH!!!:rolleyes:

Day 10 and still no update. There's gotta be something wrong.

Hang in there, all of a sudden, I got my update notification today but I had to do the update twice to get it. INITIAL IMPRESSION: I have noticed that using certain apps. and other activities with the phone are indeed faster and less lag (like pressing "Bluetooth" or "WiFi"), and better WiFi connectivity noted. I'm pleased.

Good to know that people are still getting update notifications, thanks :)

ATT and Google need to pull their heads out of their asses.... At least my previous iPhone updates were rolled out at once... You didn't have to sit around for two weeks and wonder when your phone will get its update.

One of these days apples hardware is going to catch up with Samsung's and it will be over.

Where's my update!!!!

it's not google, they release updates when they are ready, these releases go to the manufacturers. they implement the update with their own skin and framework and release it to the carriers when it is ready. then the carriers release it. its not like apple, who makes the os and the phones, there are dozens of manufacturers and all are different, so android updating will never be like iphone updating. but dont count on apple to make any big changes, they havent made any in years.

Ok finally able to activate the update. I changed the date to August 7th. Then turned the phone off. Took the battery out. Put it all back together restarted with the phone still set to August 7th then tried the update and it started downloading finally. Not sure which part actually got it going finally but the only new steps I had done is turning the phone off after changing the date and taking out the battery before trying the update again.

I'm sure that's what they're doing but when I called their support they weren't even aware of any firmware updates being pushed out. Weird. I had to call them because of this:

Saw Hamnats response about how he got the update (by changing the date)... thanks! I was able to get the update on my original s4. It DID fix the one display issue I was having, so hooray! The problem though was I initiated a warranty replacement because of 1) the display issue and 2) the SD card issue. After updating the original phone, I checked my mailbox at 9pm and the replacement phone was there.

Unfortunately changing the date (no matter how far) on the replacement wouldn't work. I would get software update interrupted your software is up to date. This was crucial to get as I noticed a secondary display issue involving the purple hue and blurring on grey screens while scrolling. I was able to get the update to work eventually but the patch did not fix that issue. It also turns out the original phone had the same secondary display problem and I just havent noticed it.

Also, Samsung Kies would NOT restore apps, ringtones, and perhaps an email setting... couldn't figure out why. Had to resort to using Helium which mostly worked.

Edit: Sorry for the long post. I did want to confirm changing the date did work for me on both phones, however had issues with the newer handset. I let the phone charge all the way for the second one and for some reason after waiting it worked. Just hope they don't release any more updates within the next month because by updating this way REALLY resets the time and you won't be able to update w/o forwarding time again.

One thing that I noticed is although you can now move apps from internal storage to the SD card (and back):

A) A few widgets disappear if you do do. I just moved the app back to internal storage to fix that.

B) All apps that are "moved" to the SD card still leave a stub in internal storage. In some cases, this increases the total amount of storage used by the app when you add up the internal and SD card locations.

C) The only way that an app's data can be moved to the SD card is if there is an option to do so under the in-app settings.

D) The Samsung and other built-in apps cannot be moved.

All in all a nice improvement.

I currently have a rooted GS4, and I tried to get the software update just because I thought the Apps 2 SD feature was worth it. I completed the download, then at 26% of installation, it said Update Failed and rebooted. What do I do now?

Edit: I tried updating again and it download then also stopped at 26% and said update failed. I really want this update, what do I do?

This same thing happened to me. I have a rooted GS4 as well on ATT. It also made it to 26% and then said update failed. I have tried to update 3 times now. Did you ever get this figured out?

unroot your phone and then update and it will work. just be warned that you wont be able to re-root afterwards because they patched the root exploit.
