Help Rolling back latest Google Maps update on Note 2?

I'm not even going into details of how much Google messed up their latest v7 of Google maps with update from last week. I know they are scrambling to restore some of the functionality and come up with fixes, but I'm trying to figure out how to roll back the update to a previous version. You can uninstall the updates all together back to the factory version of Note 2, but then how will I get it to previous v6?

I'm afraid that's what I will end up doing. Was hoping there is a way to roll back just the last update without reinstalling it and possibility of loosing my previous setting.

I have you tried uninstalling to see if it would uninstall the latest update, sometimes it does.

Just found Google Maps 6.14.4 apk, installed it, and all the previous setting (saved address points) are still there! I guess with try Waze as well.

I really didn't like the changes in that 7.0 update, especially traffic report - used be able to zoom out automatically with one tap to show color coded heavy traffic sections of the road. Lost half an hour in traffic this morning because it only showed me a jam when I was right at the parkway exit and zoom out for a full route requires pinching and sub-menu access :( Also, the whole interface looked too simplified, a step backward in my opinion.

Google Maps also came out with another update today FTR so might be worth to check it out, keep us posted

Thanks Don! My specific problem was probably a matter of personal preference since I'm relying heavily on Google traffic in the morning during my 1hr commute to work. You do get used to a specific layout and functional shortcuts activated by simply tapping on the map. Unfortunately that v7 change was too drastic where they removed a lot of it, including off-line maps used by wifi tablet users and also destination shortcuts where you just had to click it to start navigation with all the settings pre-programmed. I will definitely check out the update and post back with my impression.

... update... this dot update is even worse than original release from a few days ago. On top of being very unstable, I can't even exit maps/navigation and have to go and kill it manually. Back to 6.14.4.

Might be a HTC thing that I've - besides apps and widgets drawer - a shortcut drawer which has an icon Directions for to create a shortcut on the home screen for a Maps Navigation destination.

For benefit of those who are using Google Maps/Navigation and were confused/disappointed with a latest update.

Before v7 update there used to be two separate apps, Maps and Navigation. After the update, Navigation was removed and now it's built into Maps. That was a reason why it crashed on my Note 2. Although app was deleted from Apps drawer, I still had a shortcut to it which was triggering navigation from within Maps and causing it to crash. Destination shortcut is "Directions" and can be accessible when you long press on one of the screens and select from Shortcuts (thanks Harry2 for a pointer/reminder!). Before it used to be called Directions/Navigation, but now it's just Directions. Once you enter the destination address and name, it becomes a shortcut which starts navigation from your current location once you click on it.

I do miss within Maps the ability to switch between zoomed in and full Route (zoomed out) view by simply clicking on Trip time label which toggled between total estimate trip time or time of arrival. Now, you have to either go into menu (in the lower right corner of the screen) to select Route Preview or do long pinch to zoom out. Route Preview or any "short" zoom out from default navigation screen is the only way to preview the traffic (color changing pattern of the route to indicate where traffic is ok and where it slows down).

Quick question, am I the only one that still managed to have a shortcut available to me in the app drawer for Navigation? Granted, when I click on the Nav shortcut, it goes to the Google Maps Nav page, but wanted to see if it was the same for everyone. On my boss' Razr Maxx and my co-worker's S3, neither of them have the Navigation shortcut/app anymore. I thought it was so odd that I still had it and couldn't expain why that was the case.

-EDIT- I should mention that I use NOVA and had the apps organized into folders, so maybe it saved the cache for the Navigation shortcut? The old Navigation shortcut that I had on my dock disappeared, but I was still able to replace it. Really strange.

It's still in my app drawer.

I have an "update" notification in my Play Store "my apps" list for Maps.. not gonna do it (I have it set to not auto update or auto sync anything).

I use Nova too. I created a shortcut to maps - navigation.

It still has the blue arrow, and I placed it in my dock.

^^ Same here.

Interesting. Maybe the Note 2 got a special update?

I tried as many ways as possible to find it in my boss' razr maxx and co-workers s3 and couldn't find it anywhere after the update.
